I will ask my specialist about the cerenia but it hasn't come up. Personally, I'll stick with hycodan or other narcotics over steroids and bronchodilators they can have side effects. Hycodan has had zero side effects here.

How can you tell the difference between mild and not mild. Does it go by how much the trachea is collapses on the test or how often they have the symptoms? My dog makes a hack noise at least a few times a day since I got him at 4 months and he is now 1. Not a full blown cough just like the chi does in the video. Should he be treated?

It really depends. In my dog's case, the X-ray shows a complete collapse. Yet if you saw him he barely honks. I keep a collar on but he and all my other dogs on harnesses.

107barney if it is a complete collapse how does he breath? I am thinking if it is not a complete collapse then it is just a narrow trachea and I would think a complete collapse would be flat. So how could he breath?

Yes completely flat. How does he breathe? Pretty well most of the time.
Collapsing trachea is a dynamic condition. There are several recent chest X-rays with a completely flat trachea at the thoracic inlet. He doesn't match clinically as I said. If you truly want to know the extent of this CT issue the gold standard is en endoscopy. Many also use fluoroscopy. These give a dynamic image of the problem. My dog can't be under sedation for these diagnostics and they aren't needed because we can see it on the X-rays.
