| Male sibs with one teacup size Hi! I am new to Yorkie Talk and am having an issue with getting my two make siblings to do anything but wrestle with each other where the two of them have their mouths wide open and nibble on each other but do not bite hard. The problem is that my little guy charts at only 3 lbs when fully grown and his brother is nearer to 5 lbs already. I had to get separate crates and runs for them from the outset because the larger one would flop on the little one and knock him down incessantly. He was only 1.6 lbs then. This separation has given the wee one more confidence but I still cannot leave them unsupervised and together. Eventually I'd like them to have the run of the house and be together because they so play nicely for part of the time they are combined but it always flows back into this wrestling session with open mouths and snorting...lol Anyone have any suggestions for a new Yorkie mama? |

| Sounds like normal puppy play to me. I once fostered a kitten that my yorkie did the same thing to. I called myself rescuing the kitten by giving Duchess a periodic timeout. It turns out the kitten was initiating the roughhousing . She didn't want to be rescued. She would run up to my Duchess and attack her (playfully)and of course this would get Duchess started and off they go. It wasn't until I actually saw the kitten do this that it dawn on me that it wasn't just Duchess, it was the kitten too who was also being ornery and wouldn't leave Duchess alone. Duchess was at least 4lbs heavier than the kitten and never her the kitten. Duchess was always trying to sit on her though.....not sure what that was all about. As long as they are just playing and no one is getting hurt, I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like the makings of a beautiful and long friendship. The kitten and my Duchess ended up doing everything together even sleeping together. |

| Max (5 lbs) and Sasha (3 lbs) are the same way. Always playfully fighting with each other. And Sasha is just as big of an instigator as Max. I wouldn't worry too much just keep an eye on them

| That does sound like normal puppy play and it seems like you have a pretty good handle on it. I have a 6 mo old puppy and an older dog. My puppy drives the older one crazy wanting his attention, so I usually intervene by giving a pull toy and encouraging a game of tug…Harry really doesn't have to do much more then sit there with it in his mouth while Sunni acts like a wild woman, haha. She's met her match though. At the moment I have my daughters 60 lb Bulldog, who is just over a year, still very puppyish. Thank God they are both spayed/neutered, haha. Sunni isn't that much bigger then his head, but they are having the time of their lives. Bear seems to really know how to play gently with her..quite sweet. I did have to separate them earlier because the play was escalating and just his sheer size and the force they were starting to go was enough for me to end it. Seems like all it really takes is a little diversion for a few minutes then they are calmed down. Seems like you are doing all the right things by crating them separately and keeping an eye on them while they are in this crazy puppy stage Good luck. |

| I agree that it sounds like typical puppy play, but definitely something that needs to be supervised closely because of the size difference. My second Yorkie is a wrestler, but his bigger brother has always given him the upper paw. On the rare occasions that the stronger one starts asserting himself in the wrestling, I intervene for safety.

| I'm in the same situation. 1 of my yorkie is 5.8lbs and my morkie is 2.8lbs. They rough play, nip, and chase at each other. I just let them since they're having such a blast. |

| My two puppies play the same way. Duncan is a little over 10 lbs. and Elliot weighs just barely 4 lbs. They are always rough housing, biting at each other, rolling over and over together and chasing each other through the house. What I think is really funny and I always laugh, is that they seem to take a break and sneeze at the same time while playing. Weeks back when they first started rough housing, I watched them closely and Elliot is the one that always started it and she continues to be to this day. Duncan can be laying on the floor or sofa minding his own business and Elliot will sneak up to him and jump all over him. Duncan is very laid back and I have to say that 95% of the time, Duncan must realize that Elliot is smaller because he usually stays on the bottom and lets Elliot go at him. Once in awhile he gets on top of Elliot and then I watch them to make sure that Elliot doesn't get hurt. It is just like when we go to puppy classes. Duncan at 10 lbs. is always playing with the 'big' puppies; mastiffs, german shepherds, boxers and his favorite, a 60 lb. sheepdog! He hasn't gotten hurt yet playing with the big puppies. They all seem to know how far they can go.
