YT 500 Club Member | Chronic bad breath still Izzy isn't teething anymore. She lost all of her puppy teeth and I confirmed that with two vets. After she lost her last puppy tooth there was about a two month period where her breath didn't stink. Then one day it started again. Smells like fish. I brush her teeth occasionally , but I put water additives, use that dental foam, and use the gel religiously. It only helps for a short time and the stink returns within an hour. What in the world could be the problem? Toby doesn't smell bad and he's still teething. I feed them the royal canine yorkshire food, so it's not from cheap food. She is an avid face licker so it's quite frustrating. |

| Macy gets smelly if I don't wash her lady beard every day. I thought it was her breath but after looking closely dried food was dried in a ball in the hair close to her lip area. I had to run warm water over it for a good 5 minutes before it would loosen up enough to come out.

YT 500 Club Member | Yeah, I wash her quite often, and if I don't she jumps into the tub. And I'm a fanatic about her face. When I do take her to the groomers they expel the anal glands. It's definitely her mouth. She's very intrusive with that little tongue of hers. It borders on creepy how violated you feel after she kiss attacks your nose or ear. But it's definitly her mouth. |

| You might want to take her to the vet and explain the situation. Has she been fixed yet?

YT 2000 Club Member | dog My old boy Spud has the dog breath and I use the CET Vanilla Mint toothpast every night to brush his teeth and JoJo's teeth. It has a good taste, they love it and his breath does smell a little minty! Hope this works, it is a lot better than a whiff of that dog breath! |

| I think I posted this the last time you mentioned it…but sometimes even humans can have bad breath thats not related to their actual mouth/teeth/gums, but it comes from the gut. If you haven't tried it yet, try adding some yogurt to your puppy food. That will help balance the digestive system. My pup had the same issue, including the teething etc. When I first got her, she smelled awful, but that was also from having a bad case of worms. Once that was conquered, her tummy needed a rest, so I started to add the (greek organic) yogurt…just about 1 tblsp with her regular food..and since then she's fine. She doesn't even have puppy breath, lol. Someone on here had a really great tip for teeth brushing, by wrapping a piece of gauze (damp) around your finger and massaging gums/teeth. I started doing that and she loves it..she still has a few little baby teeth so it makes her gums feel good. One last thing..if you are feeding her food that has a bad smell, that will come out of both ends too, in bad breath and stinky poop, lol….So try to get a high quality food..(no sugar..thats a feeding ground for bacteria in tummy and teeth). Good luck!! |

YT 500 Club Member | I'm hesitant to change foods unless absolutely necessary. I tried out the majority of better brands and the only one they didn't dislike was Royal Canine yorkshire Terrier blend. They love that stuff. And it's not a bad brand. If it was the food wouldn't toby be having an issue with the breath being bad also? I have to admit that it smells atrocious when toby poops but I figured that was probably because the little turd chews on anything and everything he can get a hold of. He is forever defying us about that on every level. So I attributed that to the foreign matter in his stool, like qtips and artificial grass and paper from receipts. Cause izzy doesn't clear the area if she poops like he does. Hers barely has a smell. I will go buy some yogurt tomorrow. Do I have to Greek? I was thinking Activia since it's good for digestion. |

| I personally use oikos greek, because it has a higher level of probiotics. I have my Yorkie on the Royal Canin for Yorkie puppy and my Shih Tzu on the RC for Shih Tzu. Mine love it too and no it doesn't have a bad smell. My vet is the one who suggested the yogurt to me, but I am not a vet. Maybe you should give yours a call to make sure they think its worth a try. I was traumatized by the puppy having worms, lol. I've really never gotten a puppy that was so young before. She was only 9 weeks when I got her. I've always either rescued older dogs or gotten puppies from breeders, where they had been totally weaned, had all appropriate shots and had been dewormed. So this is the first time I ever dealt with worms in a dog. The stools were foul and her breath was horrible…Once the worming treatments were completed, the back end was so much better, but my vet told me to give her a tsp of sweet potato or pumpkin baby food with her food to help her stools firm up. That worked….then she suggested the yogurt and it has worked for my puppy. She doesn't eat anything but dog food, or dog food I prepare from recipes I've gotten here, which they love. No people snacks because I don't want her getting a taste for sugar, which is in almost everything, lol. This is only my personal opinion, for what thats worth, lol..I hope you can figure out a solution. |
