| YT 500 Club Member | I can't even think about torturing a groomer by taking Toby to one again, and I don't feel like paying them twice the fee out of guilt for how he acts out, so I'm going to go buy a tub and as much peanut butter as it takes to cover his entire body and I am going to attempt to get the sap out of his hair today. And then izzy will have to do it too. This is horrible. I'm having to have the landlord tar the ends of the branches they cut from the pine trees because it's oozing in large amounts from the trees. Looks like thick stalactites . Crazy. This is gonna suck. Cause the entire time I'm doing this toby is going to either be biting me or eating all the peanut butter. I should record this . I'm sure it will be amusing in retrospect. |

| YT 500 Club Member | I know the sap is the main reason he gets crazy when groomed. And he doesn't get as out of hand when I'm the one doing it. When I have someone else groom him I do put a muzzle on him. But I figure I'll work at getting the sap off and then take him to be groomed so he's not as volatile . |

				   | I would think an oil to melt the stuff would work well. If he's gets anxious and won't lick the PB, take a break and calm him down, wrap him up in a warm, tight towel or whatever works to soothe him and give him some time to decompress before going on. The stress will just keep building w/out a break. But without the possible stinging of the alcohol, pain of toe-hair pulling from that burning area and his fear of more strange things happening to him at the groomer's studio, you shouldn't have the same troubles, especially since you've worked with him at home grooming before and he's in a setting where he feels safe. Remember, a dog is just like a toddler mentally so treat him just as you would a toddler with the sap stuck on his widdle toes. Good luck!

				   | I was going to suggest vegetable oil too. Don't know for sure about sap, but when Meika got a mouse sticky trap stuck on her leg, I tried all kinds of sticky remover stuff that did not work, then found on Google that oil would. It did perfectly, then I just shampooed thoroughly.

| YT 2000 Club Member | Coconut oil is good too. After massaging into the fur, warm the oil with a blow dryer and it will assist in removing the sap. The coconut oil is good for the dogs hair and won't hurt him if he licks it. Use extra virgin coconut oil.

| YT 500 Club Member | Well, I doused him with vegetable oil first and then used a bunch of peanut butter and pasted it all over him. That seemed to ease his anxiety a lot cause he had something to do , lol. Then I blow dried to make it all warm and ran some warm water til it was a few inches deep and started combing. It refused to come out of the longer hair so I proceeded to chop chop chop it off. And then I combed some more. He never even tried to bite me once. I did all that until he started getting impatient and barking at me. Then I shampoos like crazy and conditioned and rinsed and right when he was looking beautiful and fluffy, I used my other hand to fluff his head a bit and realized I hadn't gotten all the oil off my hand. So now he looks like a grease ball again. That's ok. I'll wash him again tomorrow. He's had enough for tonight. But all of the sap is out from his toes and he doesn't hate me! Yay! |

Good job! So glad he didn't bite and that you managed to find a way to remove the sap which lessened the anxiety for you both... Now stay out of the sap!!! | |

				   | Great you were able to get the sap off his pads, that should make it easier on him when he goes to the groomer.
