Well it depends on how old and how much your dog weights .i i live in NY. Galen is 3.5 lbs. and for him it is way too cold for him to go out in our weather. But that is just me |

I hear Boston is getting another blizzard.:thumbdown Those poor people. |
We use too paw- I think it's a petsmart brand? We have tried several and some were just a laugh in how poor the quality was! I also like the brand...I think try are literally called wee wee pads? They are distributed by central pet. Also I wanted to mention that thy make sorts to apply to the potty area that encourage dogs to go potty were the spray has been applied- those could be very useful. |
Again thank you , I will look up the spray and purchase it. |
There's a severe cold warning right now where we live..minus 35-40 Celsius. Pao and I just stay in and chill. We play ball, wrestle a little (gently) or have a play date with one of his friends. He's 9 years old btw. We did walk him every day when he is younger though but the sidewalks are slippery, his legs hurt from the salt-its just not worth it. He does still go to the backyard for his businesses. I just shovel a path and an area for him. I do put him in 2 layers of jacket each time he goes. |
We're having record breaking high temperatures in Sparks, but thought the below quote appropriate....! Amount of time it takes for a dog to "do its business" is directly proportional to outside temperature + suitability of owner's outerwear. ~Betsy Caņas Garmon |
Yeah, I think you're wise to be cautious. More than just the cold is the change from normal. Your pups likely seldom see temperatures that low and their bodies can't adjust to the shock that quickly. Mine have seen it all their lives and they gradually get used to it as the season changes each year. Still, we were a coat at 30, coat and booties at 20 and stop outdoor walks altogether at -5. |
Wind chill advisory here in Michigan with temps -20. When they keep flashing warnings across the bottom of the telly stating frostbite will occur in ten minutes, ZoE isnt going outside at all! It's just too darn cold! |
I took Moxie out earlier for a quick walk w/ her sweater, light coat, and park when it was 25 and sunny but it's now dark and 8 degrees, much lower w/ windchill. So I am thinking no night walk, unless it is literally to the end of the next block to the 24hr grocer (and she can run around in there, lol) or just a circle around the yard. I saw two yorkies being walked earlier today, one with NO coat or anything and another with only a light sweater. And a pug with nothing on, either. What is wrong with people? :( Prayers to all the animals with no one keeping them safe and warm. |
