| Late on Heartworm Medicine I could scream. Bought my new yearly calendar and forgot to transfer heartworm medicine. I am horrible at remembering. It was due on 2/1 and this is 2/12. Should I give now and again on 3/1 or just wait until 3/1. I want to keep it on the first day of every month in the hopes that will help me remember. What happens if you miss a month? |

| I don't know what the weather is like where you live, but here in Michigan many don't give heartworm meds at all in the winter, so if i missed a dose now, it wouldn't worry me.

I agree also, I live in Pa. not a big deal to me if I miss one dose this time of the year. Start on 3/1, no harm will be done to your pup.

| I always give it to Cookie on the 9th and two months ago I completely forgot until the 16th. So I just give Cook her Heartgard on the 16th now. I was so mad at myself for forgetting, so now I check her meds every few days to remind me of the dates to give them.

| I would still give it. I don't like playing around with heartworm stuff.

| The weather wouldn't worry me tho time of year but I would check your vets policies to make sure they won't require a retest due to a time lapse Of the medication. If it has been too long in their view (which I think one month is fine but who knows) it may be their policy to run a heart worm test before they will giv you your pups prescription- which is a good idea for a lengthy lapse but one month in February?! Bah, I would say you should be fine...course I'm not a vet

| Thank you everyone. That is a relief. I live in Idaho. Have no idea what heartworm even is but don't want to take any chances. I will just pick it back up on 3/1 and now have it written on my 2015 calendar for every month. |

| Heartworm= A parasite transmitted by mosquitos. We have mosquitos year round here in Florida, probably not so much in your state.

| Technically, most heartworm meds "last" 45 days anyway. They do the 30 day schedule to make it easier for people to remember and to give a 15 day leeway.
