| Feeding your pup chicken and rice Hi I actullay posted this twice, but I saw that there was only 1 person viewing health and diet, and I need an answer please. I just took my baby of of chicken soup, because of the news, and I was feeding him soft chicken soup twice a day, and then hard nutro through out the day. Now I am giving him boiled chicken and rice, also I will throw in some veggies, is it ok to give him this every night for dinner?

| Mine love chiken and rice but then again mine love everything lol.Ever since theyre little I always make an extra plate of what ever it is we eat so that they can have a change from kibble. Today was spaggeti bolognaise (sp?) day, their favorite day of the week Chiken and rice is fine but they need kibble too Try giving your baby kibble throughout the day and make the human food a special treat.Thats what I do and it works for me and my girls They get the best of both worlds. |

| Jasmine loves chicken and rice. I fix it for her pretty often. I throw in a few peas and carrots. I also fix her eggs with a little cheese in it a couple of times a week. I read somewhere that chicken and rice with veggies is one of the best things you can feed them, but give them something that is hard like kibbles for their teeth. I have a hard time getting Jasmine to eat any dry dog food. I give her the frozen Biljac. It is soft also. I don't know how to get her to eat dry dog food. I have tried many different kinds She is a picky eater. |

| I may sound stupid asking this, but what is the deal with chicken and rice, is it suppose to help them in some way? I was just curious. Because I hear it everywhere on here..

| I have to cook Princess Chicken & Rice every night. Well I do cange it some times, but I cook for her every night because I can't find a kibble she will eat. She will be 3 in March, and there's just not one out there. I was really worried about her diet. Her Vet said she is very healthy, but because she won't eat dry food, we need to watch her teeth. She has great teeth now, but I think it's because of the Nylabones she chews on all day. She loves Cheerios for a treat, but any type of doggie treat she won't eat. Our Breeder kept her for a extra week because she is so picky, but when she found out we have the same Vet, she let her come home. We all talked about it in his office, and decided just to keep trying a different kibble every few weeks. It's been two years!!! I think she's spoiled! I just ordered Canidae yesterday, Muffie's Mom PMed me about giving it a try, not sure if it will work, but it's worth a try. If not the ASPCA will be getting another bag of food.

| The chicken and rice is also a Kidney Cleansing Diet and wonderful for an older dog A growing pup may need some more but this is wonderful in itself but I would call my vet and check when it comes to a pup. Adding kibble is a good idea because these toy breeds lose their teeth so early without it. Mustangbee, have you tried any of the Solid Gold kibble. There are different ones to choose from depending on age and health problems. weight etc. Also you can get it in 4 lb bags and sometimes they will have a sample bag.

| I have dry dog food for my dogs all the time (which they don't like - but will eat rather than starve) -- and otherwise, I feed them people food. They do get a lot of chicken and rice - plus other meats, eggs, carrots, and other vegetables --- plus a lot of things I can't think of right now. They also usually get some leftovers from whatever I eat. I just try and give them a wide variety of different good foods - and avoid the things that we know are not good for dogs. I wish they ate more of their dry dog food because I think it is probably good for their teeth. Everyone here lately has been raving about Innova - so I'm going to get some samples of that and see if they like it - wish me luck! I really would like them to eat a little more dry dog food. for sensitive stomach, for problems with anal glands , skin allergies, weight loss , older dogs to help their kidneys and the list goes on. Just this week my vet said the best thing I could do for my 11 1/2 yr. old yorkie was to keep her on it for the rest of her life. I don't cook for her every day instead I do it all in one day and freeze it in little zip lock bags. Be sure to use the water that you cooked the chicken in to make the rice. The recipe calls for boneless chichen breast cook about 45 min to an hr. cool and cut in bit size pieces. Uncle Bens rice (not instant) make according to 6 adult serving and mix together with chicken. They recommend 1/4 cup twice a day and I give her a tiny handful of solid gold if I'm around the middle of the day which I usually am. You don't have to but I grate a little fresh brocolli on top of it. This took care of a couple problems she had in two weeks.

| I have a few questions hopefully someone can answer. What age is it okay to start feeding chicken and rice? Can I use instant microwave rice? Can I buy the microwave chicken breasts or do I need to cook it on the stove? Thanks! (a dummy in the kitchen LOL) |

| Although I know chicken and rice is good to help soothe irritated stomachs and for sick doggies, but I dont think you should feed it as an only source of food but incase of emergencys. Chicken and rice cannot be all the nutritional nutrients your doggie needs. If you are going to feed a human food diet, you must give a balanced diet.. beef, turkey, other sources of carbs not just rice, variety of veggies (steamed to be easier to digest, otherwise it wont break down). Introduce slowly (one new ingredient at a time) so incase she has an allergy, you know what it is. I also would look in to giving supplements to help ensure shes getting a proper diet. If you are going to feed this, use the best quality food you can get, steam some rice (rice cookers great for this), and buy good chicken (doesnt have to be breast), and boil it. Save the broth for the rice.

I would never feed just this for a growing dog but for an older dog or one's with the above problems, it is excellent. My yorkie needs to lose weight and still have quality food that would be good for her 11 1/2 yr old kidneys

balance it a bit and the Holistic Solid Gold is great. Also since she loved it so much I wasn't sure if she would eat her kibble again but she did.

| cooking for dog I'm going to cook for my dog and use kibble as "extra" for teeth basically. My friend has a 13 year old yorkie in excellant health and he gets boiled chicken for dinner I think almost every night. There are books out there that tell you how to balance and you can add a multi vitamin too. suzie |
