What do you mop your floors with? Since I have linolium and tile floors, I'm wondering what any of you have found to mop with. I'm looking for something that smells good, but destroys the odor/bacteria of people and puppies. I'm housetraining right now and she's doing real good, but they WILL have accidents. I've been using ammonia - but I HATE the smell. It's giving me asthma attacks. I just dont' know what to try to add to mop water. Any suggestions? Thank you |
I just use the swiffer mop, with the antibacterial solution. |
I have ceramic floor all over my house and use water with bleach in it to mop the floor. The floor dries in minutes and its bacteria free:) |
We use swifters or just plain water, but we also have a hardwood floor cleaner that we use occasionally!!! All work really great.... |
We have tiled floor and use vinegar and water. |
I use vinegar and water. |

Don't ever use Swifer WetJet to clean your floors or your precious babies might be in danger. There have been many test and statistics that show there have been more household pets dying or getting sick from this product. It is some of the chemicals that are in the solution. My friends Westie started getting HUGE rashes on his face and bum while she was using this product for the first time (the only new product she started using.)then when she stopped using it, her baby got better. Weird isnt because this is the same company that makes and produces Dog food!(Iams and Eukanuba) Just a heads up. :aimeeyork |

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/s/swiffer.htm I never had a problem with this product but I certainly have had with PineSol and bleach and water. So the only thing I use now is Ivory Soap for the weekly wash and Swifter for the quick ones. |

When either bleach or ammonia are mixed with urine (peepee) dangerous fumes are created...it is not good to breath the fumes so make sure you have plenty of fresh air moving thru in the area. Ammonia is especially dangerous. AND never never never mix ammonia and bleach in the same container...the result can be death. I'm using a product called Fabuloso Floor Cleaner.....and it is so great. Smells great and leaves the whole house smelling clean. Smells like lavender....doesn't leave a residue. You can get it at Walmart or your local Dollar Store. And it's pretty CHEAP. |
Yes fabuloso is good, they have different smells: green apple, cinamon, lemon, baby scent, orange, lavender, fruit fiesta, ocean wave and others.... a quick tip : when using bleach and not wanting the strong smell of it, if you stick a pine chips in the container it will give it a nice fresh outdoors smell almost like a fresh cut christmas tree, I saw this once in CSI and tried it and it works! |
I have to agree with Miss M. I don't think amonia is that great, plus if you use amonia to clean a pee spot, the smell of the amonia and pee combined will actually attract them to pee there again. I use Mr. Clean or a Swiffer mop for quick cleans. Don't worry, the whole swiffer thing is an urban myth ;) |
Im sorry but i dont believe that website nor do i believe proctor and gamble. JMO. thanks for posting it though i found other things that were false as well. but im sticking with vinagar and water just to be safe. it does smell for about half an hour after cleaning but thats what they invented air freshners for. :) |
I have linoleum in the kitchen and tile in all the downstairs but pergo in my bedroom. I clean up pee pee's individually with mr clean or 'natures miracle - stain and odor remover', then mop with water or mr clean, then use swiffer mop to make everything look shiny. I think using an odor remover helps keep the dogs from trying to mark over previous pee's. |

I have read many documents on the swiffers and even spoken to my vet in regards to it. AND there was even an article I read that said that everything being said about the swiffer is FALSE. Yes, it does contain chemicals in it, but so does everything else you clean with. I think it's Bogus and I've NEVER had problems with it. My vet says it's safe and I trust him Implecitly.(sp) When the Rumor came out about the swiffers, I was hesitant, but then I spoke with my vet and read up on it. Because many documents have proven these rumors false, I continue to use them and they work GREAT. No problems as of yet and have been using the swiffer for the entire time I've had tigger. I think it's all about personal preferance. |

I think swiffer is ok, but any product your little one has his nose in is probably not that great. I worry if I use bleach on my floor and the pups walk on it while still wet, of course they have to stick their face in and smell it too. Water is probably the most safe of all. |

I wish there was more people out their like YOU! I work at wal-mart and i tell my customers about Iams and other different products but with anything i make sure i have the right facts. I really wish Iams and Eukanuba would go down with flying colours but of course we live in a world where some people could careless what happens to the creatures that we live and share this planet with, Its hard but with help with people like you we can be the underdog rising up. :D hahaha. |
Hadn't even thought what the ammonia may do to the pups! Bad mommy! The vet told me to use that because she had a bacterial infection right after she came home and I've just continued, but I don't like it at all. I'll try some of the other suggestions. Even the vinegar and water would be so much more natural and easier on us all I think, and I have a swiffer, just hadn't used it because the vet said amonia. It does smell nice, and I don't let the kids out til it's dry (I don't believe the stories anyway - too many vets say they are fine to use.). Thank you all for your suggestions. |

I have a Eureka Envirosteamer with the floor attachment. Works great, cleans the floor like no cleaner can, and there are no chemicals needed, just plain water. If I think a place needs even cleaner, I have a spray bottle with bleach water that I spray first and then go over with the steamer. It really is amazing. |
I use good ol bleach and water and Im a lysol freak.....after cleaning I spray a light mist of lysol on the floor after the floor is dry. Jimmidy Christmas!........I cant stand ammonia.......it just about kills me to use it..............but very very occasionally I use it because the properties of it are supposed to kill bacterial spores so resilent that bleach doesnt even kill them. I never use it around the puppies though, I can barely breath with the stuff, I figure my puppies couldnt stand the stuff either. :) |
clean floors i use murphys oil soap, all of you have to be very carefull, you all have small dogs that are breathing this!!!! never use bleach around small animals they are so close to the floor,,, if it has a child warning on it, why would you let your babies breath that stuff !!!!!! if you go on yorkie web sites they warn you about using blech  |
http://www.snopes.com/critters/crusader/swiffer.asp Even the ASPCA discovered it to be a completely unfounded rumor. |
For a NATURAL Vinyl or Tile cleaner - Vinegar & Water works excellent to remove any odor....My husband was in flooring for years and that's the best thing to use.... another trick I do is Add Natures Miracle to my water when I do my Tile floors - I have tile throughout my house and it gets the smell GONE. |
