My 4 year old neutered Yorkie, Gizmo, is having accidents all the time in the house. He was trained to use wee pads (always kept in the same corner in our apartment) and also goes outside too.

Gizmo would have accidents from time to time in the house... but now, it seems he is out of control, just peeing whenever and wherever he wants. Accidents used to happen only when we were out at work, but now, they happen even when we are just in the other room. (no medical problems, he has just had his annual exam and is fit as a fiddle.)

We have a spot-bot to clean the accidents and use Nature's Remedy as well, to clean the stains and hopefully remove the urine.

I cannot control the urinating now, and my husband has given me an ultimatum: Fix the accidents, or get rid of Gizmo.

I am in a panic. How do I fix this? I am thinking he needs to start training from scratch again, and I should only keep him in the kitchen when we are not home or cannot keep a close eye on him. Gizmo will be terribly upset, as he is used to roaming freely about the apartment, but I think this will be the only way to fix our dilemma.

Has anyone else had to deal with this problem?

Has anyone had success re-training??

Any suggestions are appreciated. Please say a prayer that I can fix this and keep my darling boy!

At his annual exam, was a urinalysis done? If no, you probably should do one. When animals have UTIs, they will often go pee in new places bc they can associate their usual places with pain; also w/ UTIs, animals will sometimes seek a cool surface to pee on bc it burns (ie, "hot") when they pee.

Either way, yes, it sounds like you kinda have to start over and confine him to one room or area. I used the Iris pen from Walmart when mine were puppies, and it's the perfect size. When he's loose with you at home, I'd tether him to you so that you can watch for signs that he has to go potty.

I just scheduled an appointment with the Vet to confirm there is not a UTI. Gizmo will be seen on Weds. Until then, we'll restrict his access around home so he can quickly get to a wee pad & we'll do frequent walks too. Back to the training basics!

Until you get this back to square one and under control, to keep hubby quiet, I would be using a belly band on Gizmo, before I would ever let anyone tell me to get rid of my baby.

My Moka is currently sporting a Pamper's Swaddler otherwise known as a diaper

for the same reasons. We're treating her for a UTI and have already seen great improvements. Poor girl I think she was miserable.

Belly band is a great idea. I am buying one today!! I'll use it until we get this under control and Gizmo is re-trained.... who knows, maybe he does have a UTI. I'll find out on Weds when I take him to vet.

Gizmo wouldnt advocate getting rid of your husband if hubby peed accidently someplace!! Gizmo would tolerate the accident and love hubby just as much!

Have you had any other dogs over? Couldbe marking. But i would give a good cleaning with a good smelling carpet cleaner. Spot bot wont give it as good as it needs to keep them from coming back. I alsouse the belly band. If boo dont go when i take him he gets it on till next time. He is great aboutletting me know now,. Boy hope its not cause of neutering. Fixing to get boo and princess done
