| ![]() I have one little 5.5 month old Yorkie girl and I'm thinking of getting another little Yorkie puppy. My concerns are that the little girl I have right now gets nervous around other puppies. She likes to try and play with other family members senior aged dogs and cats but other puppies that are her age she's not so sure about. She also isn't fully house broken yet, we're almost there though. Should I wait until she is older and house broken? or would a younger puppy around all the time help her nervousness now? I'd like her to have a friend to play with. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | ![]() It's so hard to say whether it'd be better for her now or later. As an adult, it may be even harder for her to have a new puppy around so you may want to do it now. I honestly would do what's best for you / easiest for you too - bc you're the one who will have to deal w/ more if you have 2. If it were me, and she was a bit skittish...I'd probably want to get a puppy sooner than later bc I'd be afraid she'd become more adverse to another pup the older she gets....but really, who knows?

| ![]() I'm thinking maybe in a couple months after the holiday season is done and she's had a chance to heal from being spayed at the end of January. I've taken her to puppy classes where she'll tease and bark at the biggest puppy in the class when they're restricted on leashes but then would rather run around the opposite side of the room on her own. What are people's experiences like with a second puppy? If you had to do it again would you? |

| ![]() I would wait the few more months for your lil girl to be 100% potty trained, this could help the new one with potty training. Also waiting until she is 100% healed after her spaying. In the past I had a pack of 3, all gotten 3 years apart. All my babies had excellent personalities not a mean bone in their body, they were wonderful with each other. Getting another puppy in a few months, will your little girl be afraid of it? it's a roll of the dice. Depends on the individual dog. I say go for it. Keep socializing your lil girl with small breed dogs, this will prepare her for the new addition when that time comes. Good luck in your decision.

| ![]() After 3 years I am still conflicted about this. We had an older dog when we got Ziva, 2 years later we added Abby. The girls do everything together but are not crazy about each other. Ziva was/is a princess and would probably preferred to be an only dog. Abby is playful and sweet but jealous of Ziva. Luckily we have lots of people here so we have plenty of laps to go around! |

| ![]() l would wait until your current pup is fully potty trained. As you know, when training, especially in the beginning, you have to have your eye on them at all times. You may be too focused on the new pup and the other start having more accidents. I know there are some that have done it, but would just be too much for me. I got my second pup, a Tzu, when Lexi was about 7 months old. She was fully potty trained and bell trained. So I knew I could focus on the new pup and Lexi would still be able to easily let me know she needed to go potty. Good luck with whatever you choose to do! |
