Yorkie Talker | To breed or not to breed. I am sure this question has been asked but I hope it's ok that I ask again. Is it safe to try and breed a yorkie that weighs around 3lbs? Because I don't Want to put my baby's life in danger. |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | No absolutely Not . . No toy breed under 5lbs should every be breed. There are too many risks involved.

| No way. Too many complications even with a larger sized yorkie. Yorkies have multitudes of problems whelping. They usually have a hard time, and not all the litter survive. Sometimes unfortunately the mom doesn't survive either. That is multiplied if she is too small. Sometimes the babies are too big for mom's uterus. Very dangerous. there are many breeds who whelp easily and have large litters that survive. Chihuahuas and pit bulls come to mind. Which is why there are so many in the shelters. Yorkies don't have large litters. Usually 3 or 4 and not all make it oftentimes.

| I'm glad to hear that you have taken our advice. It definitely would not be safe to breed a 3 lber. I know I wouldn't want to put my baby's life at risk to produce puppies.
