| What causes parti coloring? I am a bit confused on the parti color thing. I have always wanted a parti color yorkie and last week 3 yorkies were born at the shelter. One came out parti colored. Since it was a rescue situation I can't say for sure that the mom is a purebred and we don't know what dad was but the other 2 pups came out looking very yorkie like. If the mom is a purebred she is not well bred, she has a bit of an underbite. It just got me curious. Is it just a recessive gene that randomly pops up or does having a parti in the litter mean it's probably mixed? There's a pic below, the parti color is hiding by moms head. I know some of you are way more knowledgable about this than me! Thanks

| Mom's coloring looks a bit odd for a yorkie. Maybe she is a mix. Parti color is a gene that once spelled the death of any poor baby so cursed. Now, thank goodness, it is appreciated. Zoey's breeder was the first to get Parti pups accepted by the AKC. You can google her - Gloria Lipman, Nikko Kennels.

| What causes the white coloring is the piebald gene Sp Yorkies should't carry the piebald gene in the S Locus. Both parents MUST be SS because the white spotting alleles are thought to be examples of incomplete dominance. Meaning that "a heterozygous dog will express its most dominant gene, but may also be affected by the more recessive one to a lesser extent. For example an Ssp dog may have some white spotting" Dog Coat Colour Genetics More info you can find here Goldenray Genetics Parti Yorkies Parti Color and Biewer Colors Genetic Studies and also here http://nebula.wsimg.com/058261b970cb...&alloworigin=1 |

| Thanks Mike, that a lot of cool info. I was wondering if there wasn't some shih-tzu in the mom, you can't see her face in the pic but bits of it remind me of shih-tzu. I don't care of course. Parti's are just as heathy right? I am very interested in the baby. I didn't want to do the puppy thing again but we will see
