Most people who give their dogs raw bones recommend long bones (the bones that cows bare weight on) because they are stronger than the smaller bones in the body. Those are too big for my dog so I give her 12" Best Bully Sticks. They are completely digestible unlike rawhide but I take them away from her when they are between 3 and 4 inches long to avoid choking issues. If you feed dog food you can bet the same parts of the body are in your pet's food. She has been chewing bully sticks for 4 years now and has never broken a tooth despite someone's insistence that any dog who chews them will have broken teeth. She has never chewed ANYTHING with her front teeth anyway and no dog does.

Some people give their dogs thigh bones from the chicken. I am just not real comfortable feeding those either though others seem to have success doing so. Gracie is on a commercial raw diet that contains ground up bone so she gets the nutrition contained in the bone without getting to actually chew one.

I certainly never said any dog who chews them will break teeth. I simply share that they can. Vet dentist says they can and I have lived it so obviously I am going to share. My dog chewed on them for 5 years with no broken teeth until bam it happened and it wasn't just a broken tooth it broke it and then cracked it up the middle so the tooth had to be removed. It was the large cruncher tooth has three roots in it cost $600. Bully sticks are not worth that to me plus all the GI upset they cause. People should know what happens!

I have bully sticks too and trim off the gooey as it gets down....do you order yours online? I'm looking for oderless made in usa...

Good to know ! Thank you for sharing...I didn't realize those dried up old things did that. The ones I get turn to goo after she chews it a while.hmmm

They all do that. It was definitely the bully stick that broke the tooth, there have been others on here who had it happen to them but people get a little nasty when you bring up a problem with something they use.

What you use? For them to chew on..real bones?

No I fear teeth breakage on those and I won't do raw I feel there are to many risks. Before Callie got IBD I used naked chews the most and the n-bones. I also like the paragon whimzy chews.

My dogs love Petstages Durable Sticks . They are not as hard as a Nylabone but not soft enough to break pieces off . They just slowly wear down as the dog chews . The most my dogs have gotten off are shavings .. My Airedale is an extremely aggressive chewer and he can't break it up .

I just looked at them and yes it does appear that they're about 30% real wood, but apparently it's all "non toxic". Looks kinda interesting...

What size is Oscar chewing on?. I tend to always get chew sticks that are too small for my girls. Sorry, just now seeing that it's a size medium.

Yes , it is a medium but it is a bit too big . However the small ones too small for him . For a real tiny dog the small size would probably be just right .
Yes the sticks do contain real wood but but it is 100 % safe and non toxic.

It dosent bother you that real wood is in it? Wood is not digestible.

No , it does not bother me at all because this is NOT edible . If they do swallow a shaving it is smaller than a grain of rice .
