| mmmm--yorkies are good eatin' I was explaining to my sister that Edie is not show quality or even breeding quality, due to her coloring. Edie has a lot of white hair on her head. "Edie is Pet Quality," I explained. Later on, I heard my sister telling a friend that Edie was "meat quality". She is sick! (But funny). I am sure Edie would taste like strawberry shortcake.... |

| I don't know much about yorkie standards but my baby has a lot of white hair on his head too, is that not up to the yorkie standards? I love his hair, it's beautiful...his white kinda fades into gold/blonde. Anway just curious! |

| Cooper has absolutely NO pigment in his hair on the top of his head (as light as silver or white can be) but he's only 10 months old. If he follows the usual trend of yorkies, he will turn tan and then gold beginning at about a year old. How old is your baby?

| Taste? My three taste divine. Those furkid kisses are nectar -- except for when they have been snacking on those kitty tootsie rolls and horse apples. |

It is much different than the black tips that precede the silver. The whole hair shaft will turn tan and then gold. Its really weird!

| oh ok..thanks for the info! I could care less but am just curious, is the white on the head not up to yorkie standards? He is silver along his back, and then white/super light blonde everywhere else that fades down to darker gold...it looks normal LOL and pretty. Last edited by MeganCFT; 01-10-2006 at 09:10 PM. |

| From what I've read, it is normal for a yorkie to begin breaking white on the head at around 12-16 weeks even though I've seen many yorkie photos that I could swear the pups went straight from black to tan. I don't have the privie of being there to see the progression for myself though. I'm sure others will chime in that haven't gone through a white stage.

| Maddie didn't go through a white stage...she went from black to tan. Isn't it funny how different yorkies can look, but they are so darn cute no matter what their coloring!

| Edie is 5 years old now, and the hair on top of her head is very white. People tell me all the time how beautiful it is, but it is not the standard color. My sister who made the "meat quality" remark is 46 year old!! She is a fun, crazy 46, with a twisted sense of humor. But she LOVES my little Edie. In fact, a few months after I got Edie, she called me late at night and woke me up. She said "Alison, have you provided for Edie in your will? Who is going to get her if something should happen to you? I really think you need to visit your lawyer asap and make some provisioins. I would be happy to be her guardian." She was genuinely concerned. |
