FYI, dog friendly trip to myrtle beach We just got back from a delightful trip to Myrtle Beach. Maggie was a trooper for the 10 hour drive in her snoozer car seat. We stayed in North Myrtle. Dogs are allowed on the beach starting sometime in September. We stayed at the Baywatch which accepts dogs for an extra $15 night, up to 25 pounds. (Only from Oct to early spring.) bring fido and other sites list other hotels as well. Our room was great, we got a one bedroom oceanfront. It had pergo style laminate floors which we loved because there was no fur from previous guests. Next year we will bring more beds or rugs for Maggie, but she was fine. Everybody was welcoming to us and Maggie. All the guests we met loved her and some were sad they had left their dog home. We went out to eat three times at Barefoot Landing, a shopping and dining area which is pet friendly. We had to eat outside but T-bonz, Smokin hot BBQ and Bully's bar/grille welcomed us to their patio area. They all offered Maggie water. Most of the shops allowed her in as well. The whole area is built on boardwalk type walkways and Maggie loved walking around. I know of at least 2 other places that have outdoor seating as well. We got bagels at Krave bagels and sat out front at the tables, but they were in the sun and it was a bit hot. We drove a bit south to Huntingdon Beach State Park. They allow dogs there as well. They have some trails etc and there is a walkway that goes along a lake with alligators. This is the only nearby place we have found to see wild alligators in that area. We went on the beach at the park that day. Along the way we figured out that we should stop for food at the exits right before the official rest areas (which usually just have facilities, not food) and we could take Maggie out for a nice walk and picnic. We had a relaxing time and the weather was warm, but with a nice breeze, so Maggie just chilled with us in the beach. She did get nervous at strange hotel noises and was anxious when dad would leave us for his morning walk. Hopefully this is helpful for anybody considering such a trip.

| Awww sounds like SO much fun. I love traveling with Jackson and SC is one place I really want to take him. We've never gone further than about 3 hours with him. I am driving to SC with a friend next weekend to Columbia to visit her sister in college and this time unfortunately, I'm going to skip out on bringing him. I don't want to 'cramp' my friends trip for any reason (she's not as much of an understanding traveling with dog person, lol) and since we're going to see her sister and go to a football game, I don't want to end up leaving Jax in the hotel most of the time, after a 10 hour drive and only staying for 2 nights. Anywho, I'm hoping to scope it out though, and get a feel for the drive so that next time I can be prepared to bring him with me! Glad to hear you had such a good time. I cannot wait to bring Jackson.

Sounds like a great trip for you and Maggie. Did you end up getting a stroller for her?

Brit, I wouldn't have taken her if we had to leave her alone for very long. My husband went to Columbia for a SC game a few weeks ago. It was a weekend road trip and they had a great time (just the guys). He said everybody was so friendly, too bad it rained for half the game, but it was a great game. Have fun! I did forget to mention the stroller. YES! We did get the ebay one. It seemed a little flimsy at first, but it turned out to be ok. I guess I was used to my kids old stroller, and for the $ it was good. I put an extra 1 inch piece of foam under the pad and got 2 large carabiner clips, attached one to each "leg" so I could use 2 short tethers. This kept her from being to climb out from either side. She was so good at dinner in it! She sat right up next to the tables like I. Hoped for and we fed her little snacks. She got to watch everything going on which she wouldn't have been able,to,see from the floor. The evening weather was so delightful and she loved being at Barefoot Landing so we didn't need to push her in it. She was on to the next store to see what she could discover. It was very handy to carry my packages and jackets. I just added a photo of her at dinner to my album. I'm on the ipad and don't know how to easily resize it to post it here, but the album resized it for me to put it there.

Our son and DIL did the same trip with their dog bc of the dogs allowed after September policy. Added bonus was the lack of crowds at a beautiful time of year.
