Thanks darling. I really try to use home remedies but some things just need a good dose of medicine. I'm going to do my homework on this subject but so far I definitely want puppy shots and titers thereafter.

That should be a red flag if the AKC is the only reputable breeder in the US and it's the only way to know for the most part that you are getting a pure yorkie. In my opinion I would not chose this breeder and no shots is especially not good if you have a dog at home that could be carrying something they are vaccinated for but the pup is not like Parvo and could give that to the pup.

Our pups got their vaccines, but they didn't receive full doses. I don't believe that a 8 oz puppy needs the same amount of vaccine as a 10 pound puppy.

My daughter changed vets because he stated " we don't do titers, breeders never really vaccinate them, they just say they do, so we'll just give her all her shots"
To which my daughter replied, no you will not. She watched me give them vaccines, and even helped me once, so she knew. Not to mention, she had the labels.
She took her to another vet, they did the titers, and she's a happy, healthy 9 month old puppy.

One of the members here got one of my pups, and I told her I was doing half vaccines, but gave her the option of doing full ones. She also had the labels to take to her vet and her vet was fine with the pup, she checked out healthy and she's an adorable little thing that keeps her mama on her toes. (She recently learned to climb the gate).

The problem with giving half vaccines is I doubt the company will cover the dog getting sick if say they get there three set of shots and then end up getting Parvo or something.

The problem with this is that there is no real definition for holistically raised anything, it will vary from one breeder to another. Right now, it's just a marketing term. If your interested in buying from a holistically bent breeder find out what she means by that and make sure she's not doing anything that could be detrimental to the puppies in order to "sound" current. Forgoing shots would be detrimental to the puppy. Holistic diets on the other hand are another matter, but even that could proof unsafe if the breeder wasn't aware of certain things, for example more attention has to be given to proper food storage and refrigeration when feeding raw and a breeder should know these things.

Gracie did have all her first year vaccinations. She has since had her booster rabies injection but I have not allowed her to have any others as yet. At her upcoming yearly visit we are going to have titers done to check to see what her immune function is from her previous injections.

Before I went with the commercial raw diet for Gracie I home cooked for her as I had no choice since she refused all traditional pet foods. I think home cooking can be a very healthy alternative to traditional feeding if you take the time to get the information you need in order to provide a good balanced diet for your pet.

Thanks a bunch. I try to give fruits veggies and some bland boiled chicken as a snack but I'm not sure I can cook all her meals everyday so I may just stick with the treats I give now. I definitely will get titers If her body is defending itself I don't want to give more vaccine

I used to cook up enough for several meals at one time, package them up and freeze them individually. Then I would take one out a day ahead of time so it would be defrosted and I just had to warm it up when it was meal time.

It is too much work to do one meal at a time. I would use different meats and add a few different ingredients each time I cooked up a batch so that she had a variety of protein sources and nutrients from various vegetables. I'm not one that wants to spend a lot of time in the kitchen but it got so it was kind of fun and seeing her eat so well made it very rewarding.

With home cooking you have to use a recipe from a vet nutritionist and a supplement like balance it. You can check out balanceit.com you don't have to cook it fresh every day.
