| When it Rains it Pours Some of you may have seen my post about Bogie and his possibly having collapse trachea. Well he went from coughing occasionally to coughing a lot, it seemed like he was progressing at an alarming rate. Well I took him back in on Wednesday for a digital x-Ray so we could hopefully see now bad his trachea is. On the X-Ray his trachea looks perfect. No narrowing or collapse. But the issue is his heart, he had no murmur or enlarged heart and blood work is fine. His heart sits very high in his chest cavity though and is almost touching the windpipe. There was some fluid in the lower part of his throat and what our vet thinks looks like a secondary infection from allergies as, his cough is dry and nonproductive.. He is on prednisone, cephalexin and furosemide for 14 days. This is day 4 of meds and his cough is gone. Sorry this is so long...but with the fluid med and the steroid, Bogie is peeing everywhere. He can't control it at all. I made belly bands last night and am using poise pads to line them. My question...how long before he doesn't stand like a statue or act like he's shamed to death by wearing the band? Poor guy won't barely move.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog Poor fella, I used a cloth diaper type thing I got from Petsmart. They have Velcro and you put it on like a diaper with a hole for the tail. Maybe he would feel a little more snazzy in those. I hope he feels better soon. |

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I was just thinking, make sure you do not put any collar or harness on that pulls on his neck. My Yorkies have a harness but I connect their leash to the side strap so it does not pull on their neck and cause that trachea cough. |

| Sandy I can't walk him on any harness. I've tried the buddy belt and choke free and even they cause him to cough. I can use fabric handmade harness shirts with the d-ring at the bottom p. so far that's the only thing that I've tried tht doesn't cause a cough.

| Sorry to see Bogie not up to par. I can relate to the peeing. Cody is on Cetirizine and Apoquel for allergies which cases them to drink more and pee more. But my lil boy is sooo good, at night he will wake me up to go out to pee pee, I also have a special made screen door with dogie hatch that leads to big deck, so he can go when he has to. Sooo stressful on you and lil Bogie. Sorry I am of no help on suggestions, just know I will keep lil Bogie in my thoughts and prayers.

♥Trained by my pups♥ Donating YT 500 Club Member | It just takes them awhile to get use to the bands. Riley had to wear one for awhile And not a fan at first But now when we visit the daughter he wears it without any problems. Other then he looks at me like really i have to wear that. Hope Bogie gets better soon. And the fluid goes away and stays away

YT 500 Club Member | Poor baby. So I am confused. Does he have an enlarged heart or a collapse trachea? How old is Bogie? I hope the medicine helps him. I had a 8 year old maltese that had a englarged heart due to heart disease and it rested on her trachea and made her cough. |

| No collapse trachea and no heart disease. His heart is normal size just positioned very high in his chest. The fluid is not around the heart it's in the windpipe or trachea if that makes sense. He's on meds to remove the fluid and to fight any secondary infection that might be there.

YT 500 Club Member | Oh thats good to hear that there is no collapse. So he only coughs becasue there is fluid in his throat? I always wondered if there was a difference in a weak trachea (ex: dogs cough when leash pulling or drinking fast) to a collapse in the trachea. Becasue it seems dogs that have problems with CT have a problem that causes it (trauma or enlarged heart) |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Oh Wow . Poor Bogie. I really hope the meds work. It is really hard to see them suffer. I would try the diapers maybe they would work better. If you leave the belly bands on they do get used it them.

| It's a minor problem but with seasonal allergies he could have another episode I'm sure. Our vet said main thing was to not cause pressure on his chest area.

| He is already doing a little better and will walk and run to eat. I was in tears before his visit back to the vet Wednesday. I just knew he was in heart failure or something worse. I can deal with belly bands better than the alternative I thought we were qQq
