Hi All, O.K. so my USED TO BE, wonderful, calm doggie has decided that she is going to bark at dogs as we walk, as we drive in the car, as she is in the house. HOW she knows a dog is walking by my house, I have no clue. She turns into the freakin Tasmanian Devil when she thinks a dog is near her.
And yes, I bring her around as many dogs as I can as much as I can. We have moved my work office (I am lucky enough to be able to take my dog into work with me) and I take her to PetSmart and PetCo just about every day for lunch so she can see dogs.
It doesn't matter how many dogs she actually is able to be around, when we are driving and she is sitting in her bucket and she sees a dog, she GOES NUTS, and I mean nuts. If she wasn't clipped in, she would jump out the window.
When we are walking, if we are across the street from a dog, she goes nuts again. If I bring her up to the dog, (if the person actually lets me and doesn't think my 6 lb. dog is dangerous), she is fine and then she loses interest in the dog.
Does this dog have ADHD??? She goes nuts to be near dogs and once she does, she is like, o.k. I AM DONE.
I don't know what to do with her. I have tried everything from squirting her while we are walking and in the car to using positive reinforcement with treats and making her sit when she starts going nuts. NOTHING is working. I train her just about every day to sit, stay, look at me, etc. And this is done with all kinds of distractions, including dogs!! None of that training is translating into stopping her from turning into the Tasmanian Devil when she sees other dogs, especially when I am driving and at times walking. I am constantly apologizing to people who look at me and her like, WTF??? Control that little terror!!
I don't understand her, sometimes she is fine (like when I have her off leash and training her) and other times, like in the car and walking her on leash, she is just absolutely crazy.
Has anyone else had this problem and what have you guys done about it?
