I have talked to TyAva Yorkies about the possibility of getting a puppy. I would love to hear from you if your puppy came from them. Also, I would love to see a picture of your baby. We are trying to heal the hole in our heart due to losing our baby JoJo three weeks ago. While JoJo can never be replaced, we know our hearts will be open to another baby.

Awww, I so hope a little one will help you heal your heart a little.

I have never heard of this breeder...does she have a website you want us to look at?

Recommend The Howards in Jasper GA. Fat healthy puppies all the time. They are GREAT! My Gracie came from them.

I know a couple of TyAva Yorkies, all are beautiful and breed to standard.

None of the people I know with TyAva yorkies are on Yorkie Talk.

Thanks for the personal recommendations. It makes me feel good to hear so many good things about this breeder. I am going to make an appointment to see the puppies.

Praying we will find the best healthy puppy for us. We know there is a sweet puppy waiting for us to give them a wonderful home where they will be treated like a prince or princess.

I think I remember seeing a thread here about the Howards. Maybe do a search, it might pop up.

My Ripley comes from Ty Ava. We are very happy with her and with our experience with them. We've had Ripley about 8 months now and she is so full of energy we can hardly keep up. She is so sweet natured. She loves other dogs and loves people. I would definitely recommend - we actually want to get another. Here is a recent one... I have other photos in my profile of her...

Thank you so much for your response. Ripley is beautiful and I love her wardrobe. We don't really know if we will get a male or female. It just depends on how the puppies interact with us. I was always glad JoJo wasn't a little girl because he had a lot of clothes and I could only imagine what I would have found for a little girl. It helps to hear from so many Georgia people who recommend this breeder. I have heard nothing but good things about them. Your Presley was beautiful also. Maybe Presley and JoJo are running and jumping together.

I chose a girl this time because it just seemed wrong to get another boy so soon. I didn't want to compare to Presley whom I had almost 18 years. TyAva, will no doubt have several to choose from....

Her prices are reasonable from about $800 for a 6 to 8 month old and $1000 to $2000 depending on the size and show quality. Ripley was 14 weeks when we got her. We were lucky to be able to work on the price with her. Every little bit helped. She doesn't let them go before 12 weeks. They are quite busy. When we went there were 3 others looking for pups. One had driven from Nashville. When we went she showed us several and we went with the most animated one. She basically chose us and demanded we take her home. ;)

I hope JoJo is able to run and jump and play with dogs. JoJo always had limitations and I think that may have been one of the reason he didn't interact with dogs. He knew he couldn't run as fast or as long. We tried to introduce him to others but he wanted no part of it. I feel somewhat the same about getting another little boy. We will just be open to the puppies. I hope we can get a sweet lapdog that will be outgoing too. You were so lucky to have Presley for so long. Of course you never are ready. We lost JoJo way too soon at six. He was our baby. Our youngest grandchild is twenty, so JoJo thought he was the only child. He was our blessed little prince. We have room in our hearts for another prince or princess but JoJo will always be in our hearts. I am going to make an appointment for this weekend. Ripley weights 5 1/2 pounds - she will be 1 year Oct. 6th. When we got her at 14 weeks, she was 3 1/2 pounds. She had a sister that weight a 1/2 pound less. But I wanted at least a 5 pounder. Little dogs make me nervous.

Make that appointment... We were just going to look...yeah right. We fell in love right quick. Take your checkbook! I think they like you to call for appt. after 11. They have to do their kennel work first thing...

I was confused and thought they were going to show the puppies on Friday. We had planned to go over then. Now, they want us to come Sunday. Several others were coming on Saturday. I guess if their dogs are that good, they can name their time. I will call tomorrow and make the appointment. Sounds like Ripley is the perfect size. I don't want one too delicate. They have one little boy that is going to be pretty big. I guess it all depends on who falls in love with us and vice versa. I will have my money "just" in case.

Joni is from TyAva's and we could not be happier with her. Sweet, happy, healthy, spunky, a little bossy (that's my fault -she is spoiled!). Just very well adjusted and a joy to have. I think she's really pretty on top of all of that - silver/blonde silky coat and about 5.5 lbs.

Here's a recent photo - not the clearest but so hard to get her to sit still! This was taken at about 10 mos. The sheet on the sofa is for her cousin who sheds like crazy! (Not a yorkie!! :rolleyes:)

Thanks for sharing the picture of Joni. She is beautiful and I love her colors. It is good to see so many pretty puppies from there. Aren't they supposed to be bossy? :) JoJo was definitely the boss at our house. He had his little rules and if we didn't follow them, he would let us know. If we went down the stairs more than one time when we were leaving, he would grab his favorite toy and run at the door and act like he was growling. There were various rules. Needless to say, he was quite a mess.

I spend a lot of time visiting her kennel last Sunday and am very impressed with her Yorkies. I am returning this Saturday to buy a little boy. They have been generous with their telephone time and I cannot wait to bring my little one home!

We just got our little boy puppy from TyAva's Sunday (9/28/14). He is 16 weeks old and we named him Winston. He is healthy and smart and I was so impressed with this breeder---Missy (Ava's daughter) spent a ton of time on the phone with me before we got him, and has been very responsive and available since. I texted her a question while we were at our vet and she called me immediately to make sure she gave us the best and most accurate information.
In 2 days, Winston has already learned to sit and is doing well (knock wood) on pottying outside. He is extremely well socialized and easy going. I'll probably ruin him by just smooching up on him all the time!
I did a lot of research on breeders and was impressed with the recommendations on YT and elsewhere---TyAva's has high marks in every category.
Add mine to the TyAva rave reviews.....when we are ready for the next one we will definitely go to them.

Love his name and congrats! Even better that you can provide testimonial that you found a reputable breeder and are pleased with your experience. I hope other new members are able to use this as a referral .

Help! I am so disappointed. Missy called me tonight from TyAva Kennel to tell me that the 12 week old baby boy I was planning to buy has a Grade 2 Luxating Patella. She also told me that one of her adult boys that Ava breeds has had to have the surgery.

Is it ethical to breed dogs with a known luxating patella since it is genetic?

The puppy is $2000 but Ava will only discount the dog by $200. The vet they recommend for the surgery charges $350.

Would you buy a Yorkie pup with a diagnosed Luxating Patella?

How disappointing! But also, how great to know ahead of time!

What I have learned is that all luxating patellas don't show up while the dogs are puppies--our Gracie's vet said that she particularly noted that her patellas were tight when she did the first puppy check, but we had to had both fixed seven months later (Grade 3/4).

Talk to your vet or theirs before you decide. A grade 2 may never need surgery--it is just hard to know. That is probably why they are suggesting less than the full price their vet charges (must say, here the surgery cost a ton more!)

I would assume that the breeding male was not diagnosed until later in life. I seriously doubt that they would use him as a stud knowing about the problem.

I realize that this does not answer the question, but only you can decide whether to take the risk. Ask if the cost would be out of your comfort zone if he does need surgery. You might also ask about a price reduction that would allow you to put that amount aside for future needs.

I am sure that others will have ideas, and some will suggest that you just wait for another pup. That is still an option if it just seems like too much.

I don't envy you the decision.

Well looks like this is not a reputable breeder sense she breeds dogs with Luxating Patella!

LP can show up when they are puppies. Having LP means the dog is a lot more likely to tear there ACL and getting that and the LP fixed at the same time is $3,500 and a minimum of 8 weeks crate rest. It has to be done by an orthopedic surgeon not a regular vet. I'm sure they did know the dog that had LP and still will be breeding him that's just what bad breeders do.

I have to pipe in here. I don't have a Yorkie directly from Ava but I do have Yorkies from her lines. My girls are all sired by one of Ava's boys and I couldn't have asked for better lines. She is an amazing lady and has put alot of hard work into bettering the breed.

I dont' think she falls into the category of an unreputable breeder. She is very much so on top of her game. My breeder actually recommends her and I think Tina is one of the best out here.

When it comes to LPs, it's an inherited disease and very common in our breed. For a grade 2 and being able to find it this early is a good thing because sometimes LPs don't present until much later in life. And because of this, the parent of the dog may not have presented with LPs until recently. You can test for knees and hips through OFA all day long but that won't guarantee that your puppy won't get it and from my understanding there is no genetic testing you could do.

So with that, for AtlantaMom, I'm sorry your'e in this debacle. I agree that its possible that you could do some negotiating or even look at another puppy they may have available. I do know they sometimes have older puppies around 6-8 months at a lower price point but with the same quality.

Of course this is your money you're spending and your responsibility but I've learned that you can't always guarantee everything and they are being completely and totally up front with you so you can make the best decision for you and your family. I would talk with them further to see if there's another option but don't just close the door thinking that you ran into a bad apple of a breeder. That certainly isn't the case here. Hang in there. And I do hope that helps just a tad.
