Ok so my sister and her friend just came by before school and I have to tell you what, my sister is the kind that you cant convince of anything (she is always right) and her friends are all the same, the are seniors in highschool. So her friend was looking at pics of my girls on here and says oh how cute they are the teacup yorkies arent they!!! I was like no they are actually just a little bit smaller than the standard yorkie and she says to me, NO those are the teacup kind believe me I think that I know a little bit more about dogs than you because I have had border collies for 15 years!!! I couldnt believe it, she was telling me that she knew more about yorkies than I did bc she had border collies, I just turned around in my chair and didnt say a word until they left!!! I cant stand people like that I was so mad!!! |

And the Packers don't suck, we're just having a rough year :( Anyway... The whole "teacup" term doesn't bother me one bit. I think it's a term that everybody uses just to describe size/stature. Most of the people that I've heard use it know absolutely nothing about Yorkies (or small dogs in general), so it's hard for me to justify chastising someone for using it. Like Carol Jean said... I'm sure I'd use a lot of incorrect termonology talking about horses. I wouldn't be too happy if I got a rude response to a question merely because I don't know all there is to know about a horse! What DOES bother me is when breeders follow practice unsafe breeding techniques to produce these so called "teacups". My breeder produces them by using healthy, standard size bitches and small sires... Which, IMO, if you want these tinies, is the way to do it. As far as charging more for them... I think a lot of people charge more for the "teacups", even honest AKC folks.. (Come on breeders. You don't charge slightly more for the cuter/smaller pups??) And I honestly don't blame them either, I'm sure it takes more time and money to ensure these little ones grow up to be happy, healthy pups. Again, it's the unsafe breeding of tiny, undersized bitches to produce the "teacups" that I don't agree with. But as long as there is a demand for them, people are going to produce them in whatever way they can. The only way to stop it, is to stop buying all these small pups. If there isn't any more demand for them, why produce 'em? I don't see that happening any time soon though.... |
[QUOTE=hunniebunnie]:D So "Coke" is used as a generic term in the south? Isn't there a part of the country that uses "pop" as the generic term for any form of soda? I remember hearing it for the first time and was like... uh? "pop"? like popcicle? Well, pop was used in the south when I was about 8 and it stood for any form of soda and Kool-aid but my kid's generation use the word "Coke" for any form of drink and they are in their late 20's so I guess "saying" migrate south :D |
I always say pop, I never say Coke unless I am talking about Coca a Cola and the word Soda is soooo funny to me. I hate when people say Soda!!!! |
my yorkie pup my dobe breeder never liked the word teacup either and she doesnt even care for yorkies. But loves all of course. I think my 11 wk. girl is not going to be a so called teacup anyway because shes growing like a weed. Shes doubled since xmas eve when we got her. I dont care personally, i would rather have a little meat on mine since i have other dogs. But personally, I dont think shes gonna fit in her 60 dollar bag when shes full grown. Shes about as big as a mayanaisse jar and a half. She gets weighed next week at vets. Wat do yas think, large marge?? lol ;) |
