| I can't stop the poop eating.... Does this eventually stop? I don't think it's the food because I've changed the food 4 times and the poop eating continues. If I catch her pooping I automatically need to get a napkin ready to run in an grab it before she gets it. When I'm not home and come back though... there is never any poop on her pad! She most likely eats it right up. What to do! She's 9 months old. I tried the pineapple before which I gave for a few days but I don't want to make it necessary that she needs pineapple every single day. Is this a puppy thing?

| Sometimes a little bit of cottage cheese may help. Some grow out of it, or slow down/ do it less frequently. Do you make 'Ewww! Yucky' faces when she does it? Just saying it may help to mentally try to sway her away from doing it.

| Some continue this for a while.... Some forever. I've found it is foods that play into it. No one here will touch a poop composed of a pea based diet. So they all get peas! Problem solved.

| It's called "coprophagia" and it is quite common, especially in puppies. There are products on the market (Deter is the top one, I believe) to add to their food that can help. As always...check with your vet first |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Give her some pineapple. It usually helps with the poop eating

| Agree... but try it long enough to break the habit. 21 days for humans, I don't have a clue how long it takes for doggies.

| At 9 months is she on a regular eating schedule? That usually means a regular poop schedule so that should help. I wouldn't pick it up quite so fast all the time so you can tell her no or whatever sound you make to get her to stop doing something. The worst part is all the puppy kisses you have to skip right now. ewwww |

| I got Lexi to stop eating her poop by teaching the command "leave it". Last week at obedience class we discussed this command and ways to teach it. I taught Lexi by placing something on the floor I know she can't resist (my son's sock) and with her on the leash I walked her by the sock. When she would go toward the sock, I would say "leave it" and pull her away from it and keep walking. I did this several times walking back and forth past the sock until I could say "leave it" and she would keep walking away from it on her own without me pulling her away. I then practiced without the leash and she did great. I decided to try it with her poop. After pooping, when I saw her going toward the poop, I clapped my hand loudly to get her attention (you could use something else) and said "leave it". You have to make sure you have their full attention or it wont work. She quickly walked away from it and now sometimes I still have to remind her to "leave it", but other times she doesn't even bother with her poop anymore. Hope this helps! |

Be careful though that she doesn't get the idea (using 'No') that the act of pooping is a bad thing... then she'll start hiding when she needs to poop.

Here is a thread that might help you with Chloe. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...-his-poop.html The highlighted sentence above is why the pineapple didn't work for her. Also, I know that you have talked about adding human food to her kibble and this might also be an issue why changing her food hasn't worked. The edibility of the poop (note 107barney) in her little warm loaf changes with the food that she is consuming and digesting. Read through the link that I posted and it will be helpful in how to add pineapple properly to her diet to change her poop into something that is no longer appealing to her. Pineapple is not a forever thing but needs to be added properly. If you have more questions just ask and I will help you because I am the Poop Guru

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Wylie did this as a puppy back when I fed kibble - we bought Solid Golds S.E.P. (Stop Eating Poop), and it worked immediately - it was a god send! Try it, it may do the trick...got mine on Amazon I believe.

Thank you everyone for the great advice!! I'm going to read through that link, megansmomma! I didn't know that the pineapple has to be fed over a certain period of time. I'm going to look into how to do the pineapple trick properly. Also, thank you kreuer.. this is a really good idea! I hope that something will work and Chloe will see her poop as a poop and not a tasty meal, lol.
