| puppy and older dog Hi everyone. I haven't been on the boards since 2007 (so the website tells me) and I'm so excited to rediscover this place. I have a now 10 year old yorkie who is the apple of my eye. We decided to get another, and are likely to bring a 12 week home yorkie puppy home by the end of the summer. I'm looking for advice on how to help the older dog adjust to her new friend. Also, wondering how people separate out the food since the puppy and the adult will be eating differently. Thanks! |

| I was going to ask similar questions about adjusting to a new puppy - My Diva is 5.5 years old - and quite the Diva. I'm also interested in housetraining. Diva uses her potty pads very well. She won't have an accident unless her pad is "too full". I want to teach new puppy and wonder if others have dogs using one pad. Hoping others will chime in with info and insights.

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | I' have three pups that range in the age of 12, 10 and 5 and had another that was 7. Each one did very well each time another younger one was introduced into our family. The one (Brandi) that was younger and more playful did better than the two that were older and more laid back and reserved but eventually they all got along very well. They are very close now. I cant say we didn't have our moments of frustration as did the pups having to deal with our decision to add another addition to the family but we worked through them. I will suggest not allowing the pup to use the other as a chew toy and they do . . make sure that any show of aggression is nipped in the bud and make sure your new addition has a crate for time outs and to have a safe place to chill out when needed. Also it can be used to feed the new pup in to keep separated from the adult food. But even that can become a chore. They tend to want what they cant have !!
