I couldn't sleep the night before Cookie got spayed either (she was also 7lbs at the time). It was a tough couple of weeks keeping her in one room so she couldn't jump on things and only taking her out for potty on a leash until she got her stitches out. Especially since she was her playful self a day and a half after the surgery! |
Spaying your lil girl is the best thing health wise you can do for her. She will be fine, you'll be amazed at how fast they recover. We all worry, it's natural when we love our lil furbutts so much, this is the wisest thing you are doing for that lil girl. |
May I thank you all for the time you have taken here to offer support and empathy, I really do appreciate it. I should also have said I'm a complete coward too! I could have had the job done today, but delayed it for a week! Selfishly I just wanted those wonderful long runs along the beach in the evening and our time together afterwards on the staithe, (landing stage) when she nestles inside my jacket to go on a just little longer... Also again selfishly to prepare me for the ordeal of waiting for her to come round - I just hope she forgives me?:confused: |
You're not being selfish! You love your baby girl and want to do what's best for her, and I'm sure she knows how loved she is! Sometimes being a parent means making the tough decisions, but if these decisions are always made with love and in her best interest, then you won't go wrong. (Hugs!) |

I've just watched a TV program about a rescued 8 year old Yorkie who made a good recovery from surgery, (thank goodness) which has boosted my confidence about next week. How long do they need restraining from a run post surgery? Crystal belts at least 2,500 yards every evening in 40 yard recoveries of her ball on the soft beaches in front of our home, as well as a 2 mile walk with her mom most mornings. She adores this time almost more than eating! Her toilet facilities are in our utility area anyway, so she doesn't need to go out for those needs. I'm just concerned about all that energy needing an outlet?:confused: |
I know exactly how you feel! I'm getting my pup spayed tomorrow. I know it's nerve wracking, but it is the best thing to do health wise. I'll let you know if I come up with any good ways to get their energy out when they can't run or jump! I'm thinking I'll be going on lots of walks! Would you believe it? Yesterday I noticed that Crystals rear mammary channels seem a little enlarged. The Vulva is normal though. This morning they seem far less so, normal even. Her last cycle (her first) was about 3 months ago, quite late at then 14months old. I thought about telling the Vet, but as she's booked in on Tuesday anyway I think I'll just turn up. Knowing myself, I'll pick any reason to get out of it anyway! I thought she might be entering her next season early, but apparently not. I think I'm just a hyper worried dad maybe?:eek: |
I have been thinking about you and Crystal, so I returned to your thread. You will need to wait a couple of weeks before Crystal is able to run again, so she can heal properly. I know how tough that is. I would mention any concerns I had on Tuesday. A baby onesie might be good to have, especially if the stitches are external so you can avoid a cone for your girl. I know you will dote on her and make Crystal feel very loved and secure. My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are a great dad, and you are so lucky to have found each other. For Katie's dad ( and for me, too), the sun rises and sets on our little girl, and she has brought us so many reasons to smile each day. Please let us know how it goes on Tuesday. I will be very happy when she is back home in the arms of someone who loves her so dearly. |

Puff wanted to send lots of kisses to both you and Crystal. I won't tell you not to worry because of course you are going to worry--but remember your friends here who can help. We got Puff spayed right around 9 months then she ended up having her anal glands removed at 1 year, and I felt like a horrible mom for having her put under twice in just 3 months. She did just fine, as I'm sure Crystal will. Please keep us updated. A onesie is great to have--I couldn't force myself to put that awful hard collar on her, and don't forget the pain meds! |
We'll be thinking of you Martin and your Crystal, also Lenaberry and Gracie?. Like others here, we'll be checking in to see how your doing. It is an anxious time, wishing you all the best. Pippi will be going through this in a few months (she's in season right now) Hope you can keep your selves active, so you don't over worry. |
