Our first post with a happy ending New YorkeTalk and for that matter Yorkies. So how did we end up here? Well let me tell you a little story. About 4 weeks ago we were having work done on the yard and house. One of the workers knocked on the door and asked if our dog had gotten out. Well, no, we didn't have a dog. We have a LARGE cat. Maybe he though he was a dog. Nope. There standing at the door was this little mess. Dirty, stinky, matted. She was friendly as all get out and didn't appear to be starving. So, we gave her a bath, took pictures, and canvased the neighborhood knowing that this was someones furbaby. After about 4hrs of searching and posting found dog notices we decided to call the local shelter and our Vet. Shelter was full and advised us to hold on to the dog. So off to our Vet we go, hoping that she was chipped. No chip. A quick exam, nail trim, and $50 later she was back at our house. Now the wife heads to the pet store to pick up food, dish, water bowl, treats and toys. Wait honey.. she is only a visitor. The owner will claim her. So, here we are 4 weeks later, not a call, no one has reported her missing. We call the shelter and the Vet nothing. Multiple attempts to reunite her with her family. I can not fathom sending her to the shelter. She is too cute, smart, playful and house broken. Another trip to the Vet for shots, ultrasound as they thought she might be pregnant(luckily no). So here we are 4 weeks later. New parents to "Geni-Bean". A well behaved, loving, devoted little 2-3yo girl. We are very happy and so is she. So we will be here reading and learning all we can to provide a happy and healthy home for our Geni-Bean. |
Congratulations! I wish someone will drop a Yorkie at my door! |
Thanks Potter. We are happy to have Geni-Bean. I am not sure how I feel about her former family. I cannot imagine someone not wanting this little girl. She is about 2yrs old.. does have some dental woes that we will get fixed. She is just so loving and friendly. She is sitting next to me loving on the wife and I. We did try very hard to find her former family. Now we will give her all the love we can and enjoy her company. Gene, Janeen and Geni-Bean |
Yay! For you and especially for Geni-Bean. |
How strange that this has happened yet again here today.... Have you checked Craigslist etc? It seems this pup, housebroken and all, has come from a family who cared. Yorkies are not easy to potty train so they obviously spent a good amount of time training this pup. I can't imagine they aren't missing their baby. I'm glad your taking good care of this lost pup but I hope you continue to look for the owners. We've had pups missing weeks, months and yes years find their way back home. |
Dirty, stinky and matted says everything I need to know about previous owner. Congrats on your little Gena-Bean. Enjoy your new friend. |

lynzy420, I have indeed checked craigslist and have canvased the neighborhood twice a week for the past 4 weeks. I would never keep a pet from her family. I could have just taken her to the shelter where they would have put her down. We have tried everything we could to try and find this little girls owners. We have spent many hours looking, posting flyers and visiting Vets in the area. But I guess that is not good enough and yes I know it does not take long for them to get matted, stinky and dirty. I guess we are not welcome here after all. Disappointed. |

dirty, matted and stinky= neglect. http://http://www.yorkietalk.com/for...neglected.html I posted this thread back in 2012 about AnnaBelle. She was lost for just 24 hours. |

Gene, I'm sorry you are feeling "unwelcome". That is certainly not the case! I think what others were trying to point out is that you should not give up the search for the pups owners. There may be someone out there who is heartbroken over their loss. I don't thinks anyone here doubts that you've tried hard to locate them. Having said that, welcome to YT! This is a great site, I hope you stay. |

Did either of you read my first post? We have been looking for over 4 week. Yes, I have had many dogs in the past and have seen them get the way you stated in less than 6hrs. My comments about the previous family is why are they not looking as hard as we are. If they show up they are welcome to take her back. AS I STATED, we would never keep her from her original family. But as it seems you do not feel we have done enough what would you suggest? Would you have spent hundreds of dollars to make sure she was healthy? Would you walk with her every night for the past 4 weeks asking people if this was their dog or if they knew someone who had lost her? Would you go to 10 different Vets searching? We believe we have put forth a greater effort to find her original home. No one seems to know or want her. We have done more than most. We will keep her here and healthy, should the original owner show up and want her back we will give her up. In the mean time we will keep her safe and learn about Yorkies from somewhere else. Some welcome. Sheez. |
