| Heartgard and Frontline? I was wondering if most of you give both heartgard and frontline to your yorkies? If my small yorkie goes on pee pads and doesn't spend a lot of time outside, should I still give both? I was thinking of giving revolution which covers both heartworm and flea prevention. There's talk about these products causing cancer in dogs. Frontline does smell like bug spray! |

| On the advice of my breeder, I've decided not to use treatments that serve multiple purposes. So heartguard only and Frontline/Advantage only. Even though we don't necessarily go outdoors often, we frequent parks and go on walks so having that preventative is a good thing.

| We have used both for years on our pups with no problems whatsoever. But, we sprend them out by at least a week. I think heartworm medicine is very important.

| We use both, well not year round. Heartguard IS given year-round as I don't mess with heartworms. Frontline or K9 Advantix is only used about 3-4 months out of the year depending on how bad ticks are. They're perfectly safe to give together though.

| Even if your dog does not go out side (which would be sad for a dog) mosquitoes can still get in your house so heart worm prevention is a must. I use heartguard plus and Advantix.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I use Heartguard, but nothing for fleas as we don't really see them here.

| I give Heartguard monthly year round and Advantix II monthly from spring to when the frost comes here. I also space the doses by a week or so between the two.

| Thanks for your responses. I think I'll go with revolution. It covers both heart worms, fleas and ticks. I have a fenced in back yard that she'll love to romp in and we do have plenty of deer. |

| Revolution does not cover the tick that causes Lyme disease. We have used frontline and heartgard for many years and never have issues with fleas or ticks.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I hate using any flea or tick product on my Yorkies. I finally went with Revolution which I have used the last 2 years with no reactions. I took them for their heartworm test and the tech said they have seen a few cases of heartworm. I got the prescription from my vet and Then I ordered the Revolution from Petmeds. One friend said to use eucalyptis oil mixed in water and spray it on their coats. I really wonder if this kills the fleas. I hate to take a chance so I will go with the Revolution and say a prayer before I apply it to them. If anyone has had luck with this euchalyptis oil stuff please let me know. Some day some kind person will come up with something natural for us to put on our precious dogs! |

| I am glad this subject was brought up again. Pluto is 12 weeks and I took him to the vet for his second round of shots this week. They found a flea on him, which tells me there were more. I brought him home, gave him a good bath, let him dry and then put Advantix on him. He weighed 2.7 lbs so that was the only safe flea med he can have. They gave me Heartguard to start too, but I was afraid to give that him so young. I guess the vet wouldn't have given it to me if it wasn't safe though. Amy |

| Britster, what do you use for ticks, I found a tick on Keno yesterday after his bath and have never had this problem before with any of my dogs. |

| Ticks SUCK. lol. I use K9 Advantix. It seems to be the only thing that works around here in Maryland. Although my dads dogs have been on Frontline and seem to be okay, it just doesn't seem to last as long. They start finding ticks about 3 weeks after applying. I've only found one on Jackson this year *knock on wood* and right after that is when I applied the Advantix.
