| Worried about allergies So my child has allergies and we researched different breeds. She's tested negative for dogs and has been in contact with a havanese and a few Yorkies with no reaction. Has anyone experienced anything with allergies? If we've pet a dog and nothing has happened I am hoping when we bring our puppy home it will be the same thing. Any ideas for introductions? Or allergen ideas? I've heard if you slowly introduce them and they live with you, you can build up an immunity......?? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Yorkies are supposed to be great dogs for those w/ allergies bc they don't shed. Yes, immunity can theoretically build up...but that doesn't mean it for sure will. Then again, your daughter may do just fine from the beginning too.

| my kids and I have dog allergies. When we first got our yorkie my 8 yr old was breaking out in hives if licked and my 10 yr old was sneezing and itchy eyed (as was I). My 10 yr old went on zytrec for a bit but then stopped and he's ok now without any meds. My 8 yr old still gets hives if licked on the face but not all the time and not as many (used to be like 10, now 1 or 2 occasionally). I'm on a few medications still because we ended up getting 2 more dogs lol (a papillon and bichon-poodle mix) and because it's spring allergy season. But surprisingly I've gotten off of zyrtec So you can develop a tolerance....but be aware you can also get worse with continued exposure |
