Oh no! I just got a mental image of poor Cali behind bars! Can the birds be killed in matters of self defense or protection of property where a life is involved such as a dog being attacked?

| Perhaps the poster felt it was important to emphasize the danger she is placing her pups in. Cathie |

| We also have a large palm tree in our back yard which has a nesting owl every year and a hawk seams to make it home also. So thank you for the information about the orange vests for my baby. I will surely follow up on getting one made. I would like to mention beware of Raccoons also. They can be very very mean. When I lived in San Jose they made a nightly trip through my back yard (they follow paths). They picked up on two different occasions two of my cats broke their backs and punctured them with their talons. The vet could do nothing for them. Animal control wont do anything I had to hire private exterminators to catch them. They charge per animal and I had a Momma raccoon her 4 babies and 2 large males. It was a dry summer. |

| These stories make me not want to keep trying to train Ripley to go potty outside. I may stick to potty pads. We had an instance were there were several hawks (I counted 8 by the end of it) where circling a neighbors yard about 2 houses down from mine. We were outside with Presley I noticed a couple of hawks I scooped him up and took him inside. For about 30 minutes more hawks would show up - which you could see from our living room. It was the weirdest thing. Eventually they just flew off. Scared me though. The weren't big enough to be vultures (or ugly enough).

| No drama....The truth is often times brutal.....some cant take it..... Others, thankfully, can learn from the truth.....obviously, you have never experienced this unfortunate event...be thankful.... Last edited by Yorkiemom1; 06-11-2014 at 11:18 AM. |

| I sure don't think it was way too dramatic. You need to get the point across to the people how dangerous it can be if it happens and it could so easily as I am reading more and more posts on how many folks have these birds of prey so close and so many near their houses. It surely scares me to death and I am so grateful I chose not to ever let my little Joey go outside. He has a pottie box and plays in the house and looks outside through our full glass storm door. I used to feel bad about the fact that he doesn't go outside anymore but not any more. Thank you all for sharing all these stories and things to do to deter these birds of prey and all your advice.
