K-9 Advantix and shaking his head

[My baby Milo]

I got Milo groomed yesterday and I let her put advantix on him. I have used frontline before and he did fine but this advantix has made him shake his head and itch. He plays and eats and all but I know something Is driving him crazy. Has this happened to any of your yorkies?

It's not good to put any of that stuff on a freshly washed dog. Check the spot for any signs of irritation if it's still bothering him. If it's bad, go to the vet.

If he's having an allergic reaction, get him to the vet. Severe itching is an allergic reaction as stressful to a dog as pain and he needs some relief that the vet can help him with. Bad itching is miserable and so many dogs are just left to deal with it however they can.

The permithin (sp?) in Advantix is said to make them feel like they have something crawling on them. Jackson has never had a problem though. Advantix works better than Frontline for us.

I took Milo to vet today because he is still shaking his head and scratching the spot where the advantix was applied. She gave him a steroid shot and said it should help but i really can't see any difference. And I ended up giving him a bath last night to wash it off. I sure do hope it wears off soon.

I don't think steroids work right away but he should be getting better in a day or two now. And anytime you think your dog is maybe having a reaction, I'd probably go ahead and bathe him as soon as the frequent scratching starts rather than wait a day or so, though he might have already attained a max blood level by then anyway. Still, the local application might still be assimilating in further if the medication is left on.

I swear I'd rather hurt badly than itch badly as pain is far easier to treat than a severe case of itching and both make the victim miserable and stressed out. I pray he's getting some relief by today or tomorrow.

Thanks, Yorkietalkjilly. He is better but at times he still scratches and shakes his head where she put the advantix. I know something is still bothering him at times. I sure hope it goes away. I feel so bad. I just thought it was like frontline. He did good with it. I'm afraid to put anything on him now. I'll just look him over good when he goes out.
