That's nice you can agree that we can disagree. I've never been bitten by a dog, thankfully. If I was I would expect the same things to be done whether its a chi or a gsd. A bite is a bite. A yorkie can bite repeatedly and cause some of the same damage it takes a Rottweiler to do in one. True the neighbor(s) said they didn't see any aggression in the dog. But what they consider friendly dog body language the carrier could have perceived as threatening. We don't know because we weren't there ourselves. What it really comes down to is if the owners were keeping an eye on their pet (and did perimeter checks as another poster stated) the whole situation could have been avoided. |
This is very sad. I feel for the people who have lost their little dog. I don't feel death was the answer. |

Chill out? What for? and what is with the eye roll? If you haven't notice I stopped posting a few hours ago. I stated my opinion and stepped away from the thread. I have my opinion and others have theirs that is what makes us human. If you can have a good argument with someone and step away from it without haven't any negative feelings about the person, then I call it a good argument. People disagree and agree to disagree and that makes life interesting. But you talking it personal by telling me to chill out when you haven't even posted your opinion in this thread, just because you don't like my opinion. Edit, I was chill but now I am not. |

Yes, the situation could have been avoided if the postman had turned and walked or ran away. That ten pound dog was not going to kill him. I have heard much worse stories about dogs and postal workers and never heard of one using a rock in such a manner. Brutal....that is what it was....BRUTAL and disgusting. I don't care if I was there or not. I don't know how the Postal Service trains their employees, but I will bet my last nickel they are not told to do something like that. I will follow this case to see what the outcome is. |

This is so sad. Chibi hates the ups guy buy the old guy would ask to pet him and say hi all the time, he was very nice. At my last job we carried air horns to break dog fights, they are very effective. Their should be more things in place to protect the mailmen and peoples pets. |
The rock is the reason why I don't believe him. If a small dog attacked me and I were afraid I'd most likely kick it or hit it with my bag. I wouldn't want to bend down to get a rock, exposing my hands and face to the dog. |
mace in most states is illegal. I know postal delivery ppl, they carry pepper spray for just this reason, aggressive, stray dogs. I agree, if this guy was so scared, I would be watching that dog, not bending down, taking my eyes off this "aggressive attack dog" and picking up a rock, then getting close enough to this "aggressive attack dog" to bash him in the head with the rock. Also agree that the act is too personal. Unless the media shouts out with very strong voices, IMO this mailman will pay NO penalty, his reasoning is "self defense". I agree with ladyjane, dogs do sometimes get away from the best of owners, but not a reason to kill a 10# dog. There were neighbors out, if the lil dog did attack the mailman those neighbors would have been there in a flash to aid the mail man, no reason to kill the dog, it could have been reported to animal control. I do hope he pays some sort of penalty. Just horrible for the ppl that owned and loved this lil guy. |
