| I am at my wits end. Plz help Hi all. This is my trials with Max. I love the little man to pcs..I have house trained several puppies my husband and I felt we could house train 1 more puppy He will be 14 mos on Monday. Most puppies have a routine. Like when they eat. After a nap, between play time or every 30 min. Not Max. He is showing no signs at house training I keep pads down just in case. He has used them on occasion. We have a fenced yard so he can run and play and pottie. I have tried every thing so I am asking for help and advice from you guys. This is my first yorkie. Thank you |

| I would either use just pads or just outside. When you can't watch him he needs to be confined in a play pen. I would maybe start taking him out every hour and when he goes potty where you want him to give him a treat and praise him. Yorkies have been known to be stubborn and hard to potty train. Is he neutered?

They are one of the hardest breeds to potty train, and to be honest some never fully behave. Have you tried crate training or tethering him to you? It is a breed that an owner needs to be prepared for lifelong accidents (or on purposes) just in case.

| How many pads do you have down? Sometimes having too many targets creates confusion. I would limit it to 1, or if you have a 2 story house, 1 upstairs and one downstairs. Start with limiting his freedom in your home to a smallish area with the pad. Supervise, praise profusely when he gets it right and give him a small food reward. Praise and reward for outdoor potties too. Never stop with the praising. When he gets it wrong, don't scold him. I would say "uh oh" and bring him to the pad and remind him with keywords and phrases that it is the correct place to potty. You also need to clean up and remove the scent from the accident spots, otherwise he will be tempted to return. Use an enzyme cleaner. Here are some more tips in my blog: Potty Training Small Dogs - Dog Life and Style

| Hi and welcome. The first item on your list should be a good enzyme cleaner. It should be used to shampoo your carpets completely and then to clean any spots made after. Also to get them to use pads it is sometimes helpful to dab a little urine on the middle if they do have an accident before you clean the spot up. That way they will go to that smell. Mine were all easily trained this way, even our 5 year old rescue who had been crated her entire life before was trained within weeks. Best of luck.

| Max is not neutered as he is way to young. He is confined to 2 rooms and they both have lamiment flooring. I only use 2 pads at a time. He has peed on a couple times so I left them thinking he could smell himself. He has all of a sudden gotten to be a wild child Hyper active. Then at night he crashes. I guess I did not read the fine print. Hard to potty train. Lol. He sleeps with us so if I have to get up I grab a pad and Max. While I go he is on the pad doing. So I know he is smart. Hehe |

| It took me about at least 8 months to pee pad train my Milana and even then we still had accidents here and there... She is about 1.5 years and has minimal amount of accidents (knock on wood)... Yorkies are VERY hard to house train - you have some long months along your way... consistency, consistency, and consistency is key, and rewards when they do smth right! |

| I guess I have been very lucky with the 3 we have had because they have been the easiest dogs we have ever had in our family to house break. It may help that I have been able to stay at home with them. Our poms were fairly easy but not nearly like the yorkies. I think the one and only problem we ever had was with my daughters dachshund we were never able to break him.
