Does anyone use Advantix II?? Exprience~ Good/Bad Hello, It's HW season and I've been dragging my feet on buying HW pills in bulk. I had to go to the vet this month to get the boys one HW pill each until I order their doses for the next 6 months and it ended up being a nightmare. So....I am trying to decide between Revolution and Heartguard/Advantix II as a combo. Both have perks. I like the idea of giving heartworm as a pill...I don't like that it's for 1-25lbs. I wish they made it more exact for weights, like 1-10lbs, 11-20lbs etc.... On the other hand, Revolution is pretty good with exact sizes(0-5 lbs, 5-10lbs), but it's a topical and I'd rather have a HW pill.. Also with the Heartguard/Advantix II, I don't HAVE to give the flea meds unless I want to or until they have a problem. With Revolution, I don't have that choice. I also may be able to get away with splitting the Advantix II between the boys so I don't have to give them as much meds. I can't split up the Revolution because of the HW preventative in it. I do know that my boys can take Revolution, Frontline and Sentinal without issue. I don't know how they would react to Advantix II. They could have a bad reaction to it and this is the biggest thing that scares me about giving it to them. On the other hand, I've used Frontline and Sentinal together and they still ended up getting fleas, which they are severely allergic to and I don't want to put them through that again. They get one flea on them and they itch for weeks. My older dog had to be on prednisone for it. That's why I like the fact that Advantix II REPELS fleas...oh and deer ticks. I don't want the fleas to even have a chance to bite them. Revolution, unfortunately, Does not repel anything. It only kills the fleas, eggs and larvae after they are already on the dog...and for ticks, it only covers american dog ticks, not deer ticks. Deer ticks aren't super prevalent in my area, but we do occasionally go up north and to my parents and they do have deer ticks there. So.....does/has anyone else(d) use Advantix II?? Do you like it/hate it?? Why?? Do you know any pups that have had a bad reaction to it?? P.S It says in the ad that some small/medium dogs may not be able to tolerate it well. That is why I decided to ask about other people's experience with it. Last edited by theporkieyorkie; 04-15-2014 at 12:25 PM.

Hi... I used it on Gizmo. He didn't have a bad reaction to it, but it did make him very greasy. I now use Revolution.

I use Advantix II on Waffles and also used it on my previous very senior yorkie who had a bad reaction to Frontline. Neither one have had any bad reactions to the Advantix II - however on Waffles, who is almost 13 lbs, I use the dose for small dogs up to 10 lbs.

| Heart worm prevention should be given year round. You can also do sentinel and Advantix together instead of heart guard and Advantix. I use Advantix in the warmer months and I only do it every other month and don't have any problems. It is the only thing that works for ticks here.

I use Sentinel for the heartworm and fleas. I used Advantix II for the tick but I think the ticks are becoming resistant to it. I've been hearing that some areas, certain tick/flea repellents are becoming ineffective. Maybe you should ask some of your neighbors that have dogs what they use and their experience?

I use heartguard and advantix 2. I put the Advantix on 48 hours before her bath, or more if she isn't too dirty looking. I just deal with the slightly greasy look for those 2 days, it's not a deal breaker to me since it seems to work. I've never seen a flea but it's ticks that frighten me. She LOVES her heartguard chewable. Its one of her favorite treats and she is very picky. For treats she will only eat chicken jerky and Pedigree jumbone ( I know, not good stuff).
