I'm very relieved. I guess I missed where you told us she had contacted her vet, which was the responsible thing for her to do in the first place. You didn't post what the vet told her to do about the dog eating the potpourri ball or what she did for the dog to help it deal with the potentially toxic "ball", so we were left to judge that she just left it alone and went to work, which smacks of neglect and irresponsibility. That was my major concern and your posts seem to indicate she'd done nothing but leave the puppy alone with a dangerous substance, which he'd ingested and then called you rather than her vet and finally, left the little puppy alone to go to work without getting any help for him, for which I would judged her severely and would also judge any owner that acted in kind. You said you told her to call the vet but I didn't see where you said she called him and what he told her to do so that the dog would be safely observed or cared for in case he got toxic or something.

My judgment was not about knowing what kind of person your sister is or her circumstances at all - it was all about her actions concerning the puppy - how your story seemed to indicate she was neglecting her dog when he could be in danger by going off to work. I saw no mention of her calling the vet until your post today, what he told her to do and that she had done it and thought the worst. It wasn't personal about your sister - just the dog's well being. Your last post gave a much better account of what happened and I am relieved that she sought the help of her vet and acted on it before leaving the puppy. I hope the little guy doesn't have any problems from his session with the oils in the potpourri or blockage from the substance. Give us an update when you can and I wish that little one all the best.
