Too much hair! Do you trim around feet?

I usually trim between Tibbe's thick hair between his pads, 'tween his toes and all around the edge of his foot but occasionally let the top hair of his feet grinch out, which I think is so cute for a while - then I trim it back again when it begins to look kind of slouchy. I think grinch feet are so cute!

Here are the requested piccies. One is of Marcel's paw and the other is Pfeiffer's paw. This is what they look like having never been cut. You can see that while there is fur there, that their paw pads still make good contact w/ the ground. The hair always seems to stay this exact length too - it just sort of 'trims' itself or something. I also think that fur btwn the individual paw pads is there for a reason - to protect the tender btwn-the-toes area and the edges of the paw pads themselves....so this is also why I leave it natural; it's there for a physiological reason, which I believe is to protect the pads.

That said, to each their own , and for some it works better to trim...especially if they have to deal w/ mud/dirt a lot (we don't). Living in the desert, our paw concerns are EXTREMELY hot outdoor ground surfaces and prickly things that could stick in their paw pads...the natural hair protects them from both to an extent.

Lol...what a *great* description, it's perfect! Mine totally have the Grinch feet !

He may be more comfortable with his hair trimmed down in the summer but until the hair cut try giving him a bath and using a good dose of conditioner and then spray his coat down with a good conditioning spray and use it daily. It will help keep his hair more slippery so it won't tangle around the harness quite so easily. You just want to use a conditioning spray that isn't too heavy but keeps a good shine and slip to the coat.

Can you suggest a brand? Nothing I've used so far works. He has tons and tons of cottony coat.

I always kid Tibbe, telling him "Tibbe's got Grinch feet!" and pulling a bit at the turned up hair at the end of his toes and he just loves it.

Funny you mention this bc Marcel just *loves it* if you play w/ his paw hair by just gently pulling it up and out...he goes into a little trance . Maybe it feels like how we do when someone plays w/ our hair...sorta relaxing.

That's Tibbe - he just turns over on his back showing his fat tummy and relaxes when I start fiddling with his Grinch hair, then squeezes his eyes shut!!! So sweet!

I tried leaving mines hair between the pads but they chase each other a lot playing and they slip and slide to much on the floors with it long lol.

I do the same thing as Ann. I don't ever trim their paw hair... It seems to take care of itself.

Omg....my girls currently have a BAD case of grinch feet! It's cute but it kinda drives me nuts as they hate having their feet hair combed out, it makes tiny little mats which hurt them to get out so I end up having to cut them out, and my girls love to go swimming and run through the sand....so short hair works better for us.

I guess it makes sense.. They be "grinding" the hair down during walks as well as their nails. Too bad I can't leave it like that as the hair on their pads would be caked with mud and other gunk... They both hate having their paws handled.
