Default need help in regards to yorkie scams

i have been looking for a femal yorkie or yorkie poo for a while now and have lots of questions no one close to me can answer, so i turn to ya'll for help. what are some questions i should be asking when looking at a potential puppy to buy?
people keep telling me to do my research on yorkies and i have done alot, but what all should i know when it comes to the health and welfare of my puppy?

also, if anyone has any suggestions of what kind of scam someone might do and what i should look for, i would really appreciate it.

thanks for any help i can get,

Find someone local don't buy from the Internet having whatever someone tells you they are selling shipped to you. Visit the breeder, see the dogs and puppies, you should be able to see at minimum the Mother to the pups. Don't buy from someone with several breeds
The seller should be asking you many questions about the kind of home you can offer a pup and you should be asking the seller many questions regarding the care of the puppy, background on the dogs.
Don't buy from a broker. A broker is someone who sells puppies for people who breed and have often never seen the puppies until they are sold and certainly never seen the parents.
You want to buy directly from a breeder. Ask about guarantees, you can ask for references. There should be vaccination, worming, health records on the pup.
You should be able to take the pup to a Vet within a few days afer purchase and be able to return it if the Vet has found a health problem. It must be in the contract, verbal isn't good enough.
Good luck

how long of a health guarantee should i be looking for?
also, i am able to fly anywhere because i have flight benefits, so what should i do if i find a puppy in another state? i know i should talk to them on the phone but what are ways i can make sure they are not a scam too. i plan on picking the pup up wherever she's at, but i don't mind traveling to get her. let me know what you think...

I have sold most of my pups to people out of state. I as a seller am taking a big risk in trusting what someone tells me, as much as them trusting me. Make sure that if you are able to get the pup you are able to return it just as easily. Your guarantee needs to be a 1 year contract. There will be things you will need to as a buyer to honor the contract too. Get lots of pics, possibly a vets name and number to help verify that there is a pup, and that the breeder has taken good care of them. Trust instinct as well if you don't feel right chances are it is not.
You want to make sure that you are able to see pups from previous litters, and of mom and dad. Check their pedigrees to make sure that their lineage is not crossed. That is an important thing to me as a breeder.
Good luck with your search. What price range are you looking at?

Default i was to much in a hurry

i was in to much of a hurry to buy my first yorkie. i bought a puppy from a woman in blountville tennessee. when i went to get her she looked long legged and not much hair. i knew that wasn't a good dog but she assured me she was a purebred and her hair will grow. well she is 2 years old now and her hair never grew and she weighs 10 pounds. i went back to her and she wouldn't refund my money so i got screwed i guess you could say. i still love mt dog with all my heart but just make sure you get what your looking for and just don't settle for anything just because you want a puppy. if anyone buys a puppy, don't buy from barbra in blountville tennessee. she a bad breeder

Teresa I've heard of that lady. She lived close to where I was. When I was starting my program I was looking at possibly using her as stud service, but she seemed off. Sorry you had a bad experience. What part of TN do you live in.

You will find it difficult to get many breeders of a yorkie-mix to give you any type of a health warranty or guarantee. Just doesn't seem to happen with the mixed breeds.

Check with your friends here on YT- they may know of a breeder close to you or can refer you to a fellow YT member who may have the puppy of your dreams.

Please remember that a puppy that has a health warranty, who has been to the vet, has his shots and wormings, is 12 weeks old and comes from a good breeder will more then likely cost you more then the $600.00 puppy in the paper. Bottom line is that the puppy from that good breeder will cost you much less in the long run.

I know that we have old threads here on YT that we have talked about this topic that will give you some wonderful suggestions.

Well said Wnalgeria. I have found that there are many cheap pups in the paper, and most end up costing more in the long run.I am worried that because there were so many in the paper so cheap I wouldn't be able to sale my pups and clear what I have put into them. It is definitly hard competeing with the cheaper pups prices.

anyone trying to sell you a puppy by shipping the pup to you from out of the country like Nigeria, it's a dead give away that it's a scam.

and if it sounds like it's too good to be true, it probably is.

Exactly.
Unfortunately, I fell for this scam myself. Lost my money, and got no pup.
I'd stay away from PetLoop.com in general, since so many of those posters are cons.

I am a small breeder. I have one female, and I have used a stud for her. She had her second litter 6 weeks ago. We just moved from Johnson City TN, to frisco TX in October. I have 1 male and 1 female that are available. I have yet to advertise them locally. I am hoping to sell them to someone on the board or to someone in our area. That way I can see them grow, and keep in touch with the new owners. Feel free to e-mail me at taliacoley@yahoo.com if you have any questions. I also think that there has been complaints about that lady made locally. I think she may have gone out of business. I am not for sure, but I remember a breeder in Blountville got closed down.

Hello,
attached are my available yorkies. Let me know the ones you will take good care of, and i will give it to you free, but you must promise me that you will take good care of them. i'm giving them away due to my relocation to an unconducive area, but i'm strictly giving them to someone that must take good care of them. You will only pay the shipping charge of $300 per one and have the babies shipped to you. Let me know asap.

Default Lorraine, buying a Yorkie

You can start with the Yorkshire Terrier of America website at www.ytca.org There is a breeder referral there. YOu may even be able to find someone in your area. If they don't have something available they may know someone who does. Just remember, you may have to wait. I am just in the process of placing a female pup to new owners that are friends of mine and they have been waiting since spring for a female.
I will caution you that females are not easy to find. There often not as many born as males it seems and a show breeder will tend to run those females on to see if they are show quality to keep for their breeding program. Anything that is sold for pet has nothing wrong with it, it just isn't what they want for the show rings and therefore will let if go to a pet home spay/neuter contracts. They should be AKC registered if being sold as purebred and will be sold with Limited Registration.
If you do plan on flying somewhere to get a puppy, plan to spend a day or two to get a feel for the breeder you are talking to.
Puppies should never be less than 12 weeks of age at the time of sale. I also never let my puppies go to a new home if they are less than about 2 1/2 lbs. There can be too many problems with ones that are younger than 12 weeks and less than 2 1/2 lbs.
A health guarantee for genetic problems should be at minimum 2 years, 5 is better. Genetic problems don't always show up in the first year. A general health guarantee for one year is fine. Sometimes the contract will stipulate what is and isn't included in that guarantee.
I can't help you if you want a crossbreed such as a Yorkiepoo. Just remember this is not a breed and there could be anything in the parentage behind the pup. Which is fine but sizes will often vary even if the parents are small. I have seen two 5 lbs parents produce a 25 lb Maltese/poodle cross.
