We feed Leroy, Toby, and my mom's Poms Acana Wild Prairie but Mia gets Halo Spot's Stew toy and small breed along with oatmeal and chicken because the Acana didn't suit her well and she has a sensitive stomach... I think you should feed your puppy whatever suits him and you're comfortable feeding. It depends on your dog what might be good for one dog might not be good for another. |

If you have petco nearby, you can buy both foods and see which your baby likes better. They give you a refund or exchange for the food if you say your baby didn't like it. I did it before with the blue buffalo, they let me exchange for a bag of wellness. |

That actually looks like a great food and has so many different meats in it! I might go with that one.. Isnt grain free supposed to be better though or should they have a little grain in their food? |

The DogFoodAdvisor site doesn't even bother me much that he's a dentist. I mean, yeah, it's a good point. But the "he's a dentist" alone isn't enough to scare me off BUT if he were a human dentist AND also had experience (actual hands on, real life experience) with dog nutrition or some kind of certification or *something*, I'd feel better, but alas, he doesn't. His site also does not weigh in on issues like where a food is produced, recalls, etc. Some foods are given top ratings that have had tons of quality control issues. So I take what he says with a grain of salt. The site is a decent place to find lists of all the dog foods, if you're looking. And also read others comments about how well their dog is doing. But other than that? Eh, I don't base what I feed off of some internet rating. FWIW, I don't think Blue Buffalo is all that great. It's mass produced in, like, 5 different plants. Who knows who over-sees what. It's had some issues in the past. Hear of constant GI issues from dogs eating it. |
Rx diets here. Purina HA for the girl. Science Diet C/D for the boy. I base what I feed on expert advice (veterinary nutritionists). Petdiets.com for when I want an easy answer and Small Animal Clinical Nutrition if I'm studying something.. If I was using a regular dog food it would be from Royal Canin or Science Diet. |
Both of my yorkies started on Royal Canin, but neither did well on it. My boy is a picky eater and has allergies, so he was itchy and sometimes rash-y until we found something that worked for him. My girl is only 8 months, but having been spayed, we're transitioning her to adult food to ensure she stays at a healthy weight. Fortunately, both Keegan and Piper really like and do well (so far) on Wellness CORE grain-free. Piper has issues (garbage gut) that involve her penchant for eating non-edible items, but the food itself has not caused her any problem. They both get a small amount of canned food in the evening, and are fed mini-meals, often using an interactive toy, throughout the day. Keegan only throws up now if he's strained a muscle in his rear leg and is feeling ouch-y, and Piper only throws up when we have to have the vet pump her stomach for lost and/or stolen items. :p |
