Well in my experience it is not just men. Actually my two sisters (who I rarely see) were visiting my home one day several months back. And this was the first time they met Razzle our Yorkie. After about one hour or two, when they saw Razzle sit, lay down on command, and how confident he was with our big boy Magic. They both had some comments to make. One sis, said well I have never liked the small dogs I run into in the elevator as on more than one occasion have had my ankles nipped, and nobody shuts up their yappy dog. My other sister said; well I sure see this wee one's attitude and I love it. I said YT's with correct temperament have very little give up in them - they are pretty tough beasties at least in the own mind. Most little dogs I meet either cringe away in fear, or start yipping a whole lot --- this I don't like. To which I responded it is with any size of dog that is mis-behaving more a comment on the owner than the dog. Big or small you need to do your training and socialization. |

Truer words have never been spoken! Cusos to you for helping your sisters open their eyes a bit wider :) |
There is no love like yorkie love !!!! |
I have never have that kind of comments, at least not to my face... on the contrary I usually get complements and people wanting to pet Mike and Molly all the time, even the big dog owners I hope I never get a comment like the ones you guys are talking about, some are very mean..... I am not a very patient kind of person.... |
This is as irritating to me as when women say "anyone who gives birth without drugs is stupid". I have to bite my tongue to keep from responding "nah, my vagina is just better than yours" (No offense to anyone who chose drugs during childbirth-I am all about choosing what's best for you, and if that's an epidural, great! But I don't like it when people tell me I'm stupid for not making 'their' choice) |
real men love tiny dogs I just adopted a furbaby I name Ferghus. My eighteen year old son adopted his brother and named him Wallee. :) While I do have a cattle breed mix who is a rescue, she is fifteen years old, I have always been partial to little dogs. So much personality in such a tiny package. This is my first yorkie having always had chihuahuas before. I did ask my son if he was concerned about comments people might make about him having a yorkie and he stated no he was secure in who he was and worst case scenario Wallee would be a great chick magnet. LOL. When his dad and I got married I had a chihuahua that was 8yo. His dad expressed disgust over having a "worthless" dog. Till the sweethart killed a rat that had gotten into our house, took to hunting, camping and fishing like no other and showed him what a real watchdog was. She only barked at strangers. I have no doubt that Ferghus and Walle will be wonderful. They already are. |
I grew up with big dogs (but my family also has lots of land), so this is my first small pup. People keep on saying, why would you get such a small dog. My response is.....I live in a city and in an apartment at that. Here in Las Vegas we also don't have backyards. Usually you walk out your backdoor and a wall greets you, just 3 feet away. Yorkies are great apartment dogs and don't need much space to be happy. I don't think it is fair to get a big dog like a Lab who would need lots of space to run and pool to swim in. Usually shuts them up. Also, when I first told my sister about my Maggie, she said why would you get a yappy dog? Then her dogs started to bark (loudly). I said, and your dogs don't bark. She said point taken. |
Perhaps the proper reply might be: "Get a real life!" |
