Biewer...or not???
 

Hi everyone! I'm new to this site and still trying to figure it out. I have two Yorkies (I think)...Ella is a one year old silky and Maizy is a 4 month old Biewer. My question is to anyone who knows anything about Biewers. I got Maizy just before Christmas from a breeder who owned the father and grandfather and was given one of the pups from the litter (my Maizy) in exchange for stud services. The mother is a Biewer yorkie (supposedly) and Maizy was the only one in the litter who was born with Biewer characteristics. So...I was told she would be very small...estimated 3 1/2 lbs full grown, and at 4 months, she's already 5 lbs. She's also shedding a lot, has straight, somewhat wiry hair and really, appears to be a Yorkie/Jack Russell mix rather than a Biewer. I'm considering doing a DNA on her and going after the breeder if she's not, but just don't have the finances for that at this time. Just wondering if anyone who has much experience with Biewers can tell me if they've seen one that resembles her. Regardless of what she is, I love her to bits and she's not going anywhere, I just want to know what she is.

If Maizy was the only one from the litter with "Biewer characteristics," which I take to mean color pattern, then no, she is not a Biewer. Biewers are their own breed, and are supposed to bred to other Biewers. All of the offspring should have Biewer characteristics. Do you know what the father looked like? DNA testing should only cost about $80 and would be well worth the expense if you can get your money back from the breeder. You have good reason to suspect that Maizy is not purebred. They can distinguish purebred Biewers from Yorkshire Terriers, and can also detect if other dog breeds are in Maizy's background as well.

Sorry, looking at the Wisdom Panel website, it looks like only Wisdom Panel Professional checks for Biewer vs. Yorkshire Terrier differences. That test will be more expensive and would have to be done at a vet.

I do agree with yorkie/jrt. Neither Biewers nor yorkies shed. I'm sorry it appears that you were lied to. :( but your baby is seriously gorgeous.

First ::::Welcome to YT, you have come to the right place to hopefully get answers to yorkie questions. I am not that knowledgeable about Biewer's I am my self recently doing research on them, they are not AKC accepted as I am sure you know. There are members that have much more info. on that matter.
Second... she is absolutely adorable, I agree with CARMEOW, Biewer's & Yorkies do NOT SHED. In my OWN PERSONAL OPINION, Maizy's face looks like a Jack Russell, My neighbor has a JR, Maizy has Biewer's coloring but not that yorkie face. I know that you love her and will keep her regardless, but DNA is good just to know what she is, and maybe this "breeder" or person that got the pup for stud payment can be held accountable for selling you a breed that is not a biewer. First off why did the breeder not dock her tail? Sounds fishy to me. How much did you pay my biewer cost me $1800 they are not cheap.

I was under the impressiong that biewers had full tails.

You're right, their standard is for them to have a full tail not a docked one..

Yes your right they have a full tail I read some but not the whole thread I thought she was debating if it was biewer or parti yorkie. Now I saw she thinks it looks like a jack russel I guess DNA with wisdom panel will tell the results.

The Biewer, named after the founder,originated in Germany in the mid 80's. Over the years they are selectively bred and a standard was set. The standard is similar to the Yorkie, but calls for specific color placement. White paws, tip of the tail, symetrical coloring on the head and face, etc and no docking of tail. It has been recognized as a separate breed by some organization and can be shown in some venues. Not in the AKC

Partis are tri-colored Yorkies. They can be registered with but not shown in AKC. Can be shown in some other venues. There is no standard set for them that allows for the non-standard coloring, but typically, most Parti breeders follow the YT standard with color as the exception.

I just wanted to clarify one thing...Maizy's dad is a regular yorkie and the mother is the one who is the Biewer. I knew Maizy wasn't a pure Biewer, but seeing that both parents are Yorkies, I was told she would have the Yorkie features. I sent an email to the breeder yesterday stating what some of my concerns were and seeing if maybe there was a mixup somewhere (really, I gave her the chance to come clean). Her response was pretty nasty and defensive...which has raised some more red flags. I've asked for a picture of the mother just so I had an idea of what Maizy "could" look like and she always had an excuse for not being able to send me one. So, I'm going ahead with the DNA and will contact the CKC if indeed the results come back as anything other than a Biewer Yorkie. At the end of the day, I got a wonderful, rascally little girl who I adore and could care less about getting any money back. If this breeder knowingly sold me a pup that was something other than what I was told, she needs to be held accountable...it's the principle of it all that matters the most to me.

Let me start off saying I have a biewer she is registered with btra and a akc yorkie. We wanted to breed them, my mentor wasn't sure of the idea but we had family members lined up homes.im not able to register the pup because abviously she's a mut. That right biewers are a whole different breed than yorkies as I have learned on this site. Continental kennel club is a poor registry. They register muts all the time . You send in a picture if the dogs looks pure to there eyes they register, no pedigree needed. For all who knows could have been the neighbors dog. If she admitted that the dad is regular yorkie and mom biewer than your wisdom panel testing will still come back mix breed because biewers have whole different genetic. If it was biewer with biewer than she would be pure. If you report her to ckc I don't really think ckc would care they are just in it for the money, they might suspend her as a breeder or banned her but ckc is sush easy to get a new registration she might reapply under husbands name example. I think you have lost your money because basically she did tell you the dog was mix from the beginning saying mom biewer dad yorkie. You just dirint know then but she did say it was mixed in other words. My suggestion just love that puppy she's still cute. Sorry if I was too harsh. Just putting it out there. :animal36

Thanks for your advice. No, I didn't see that as harsh. I guess I don't have a full understanding of what a Biewer is exactly. She told me a Biewer is a Yorkie, just stalkier and with different colouring. Yes, I knew Maizy wasn't a purebred Biewer right from the start and have no problem with that. My issue is that I don't believe she has any Biewer in her at all and I suspect she's a Jack Russell/Yorkie mix. I don't care about the money, I just can't stand people who lie and scam people just to make a buck, and if that's what she did, I want her to be stopped from doing it to others. I just got another horrible email from her attacking and threatening me...if she had nothing to hide, she wouldn't be so defensive, right? Why, oh why do people have to be so mean and deceitful? Maizy is what she is; she's loved dearly and I believe she was brought into my life for a reason and am grateful to have her. If I was scammed, I just want to do what I can to ensure this lady is
stopped.
