| Questions to ask vet during first visit ? Hi, Our Mia will be having her wellness visit on Wednesday. She has to be seen within the first 10 days of bringing her home from breeder for year health guarantee. This is my first yorkie fur baby and I am wondering what good basic questions should I ask about do to her breed, things I wouldn't know about to look and watch out for. Thanks in advance for your help,I just love this site and all your wonderful advice, friendship and support.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | CONGRATS on your new baby, little Mia! How excited you must be . Things to ask: *Have her knee caps checked thoroughly and make sure they're not luxating. Yorkies are notorious for luxating patella (LP), and it's good to check them even as puppies bc they can sometimes already show loose knee caps. If they are luxating, your breeder should pay later for the surgery and/or somehow compensate you. *When should her next vaccinations be so that you stay on schedule. And talk about when to get rabies (DON'T get the rabies shot on a day when you're getting any other shots!). I waited on my 3 to get rabies until they were around 6 mths old, despite my state laws. With these little dogs, I just prefer to wait. *Discuss spaying and when you should ideally get her spayed. The best scenario is to get her spayed after all her teeth come in. Sometimes, yorkies will retain their baby teeth so you end up w/ double canines...while getting spayed, any extra baby teeth can be removed while she is under...which avoids having to get an add'l surgery later. Can't think of what else to ask, but those are the main things that came to mind. Good luck and let us know how she does!
