| Confused new Yorkie mom Hi all,I am new to dog ownership and new to this forum. I have a 17 week Yorkie puppy named Noah, who I absolutely love! He's in perfect health and I just want to provide the best for him. I'm confused bc he has been on science diet puppy healthy development and he loves it!!! However, I've read that this isn't a quality dog food. He's very active and jumps every where, he doesn't have bad breath or any skin conditions, and he weighs 3.7 lbs. Does anyone have any advice? should I switch to another pet food or should I leave it alone. Thanks in advance. |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Hello and Welcome to YT. "Yorkies For Dummies" is the first one I recommend."Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide" is the second book. These are excellent resource books .Another book "How to Housebreak Your Dog in 7 Days" Is very helpful. They are not as easy to housebreak. I would wait a month or two before changing over. You do not want to change everything to early. He left his mom and siblings. He has a new family. That is a lot for a little pup to deal with. You can do a search on our site, on the bottom of the page, for dog food. Everyone has different favorites. You can get idea of what is being fed. I feed Galen around 25% protein. Also check out Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor . There is a ratings and reviews of foods. It is a great dog food site. Good luck

| Well, I wouldn't feed it but if you are comfortable with it then go ahead. Just look at the ingredient list and see if you think that the ingredients are things that are good for your dog. Usually a healthy dog will do well on these foods for the first few years but will begin to have health issues later on. It's kind of like feeding your kids breakfast cereal every meal of their lives. I feed a commercial raw diet to my Gracie. Sometimes I make her a homemade meals. Sadly, the pet food industry is getting very rich by feeding our pets low grade and unhealthy ingredients in their products. |

| Ive got Lilah on Wellness We had to do a full switch the day we brought her home because her breeder had her on a food that contains eggs and my son is very allergic to eggs (normally Id do it gradually). Anyway, we lucked out and she didn't have any tummy upset or diarrhea |

| If he is doing well on it I would leave him on it for a few months because it could stress him out to go to a new house and then switch food to. There are a lot of this stress can do so trying to keep him stress free would be best for now.

Nutro Natural Choice Toy Breed Senior(4 stars) is what we're using... I didn't see a toy breed sized kibble for Orijin in their ratings but that did look like some quality ingredients... I love walleye! | |

| They are small bite. There were some brands that shocked me at the poor ratings!!! I will be getting a yorkie puppy around the 21st of Jan. This is what she will go on after she is all settled in. Glad you liked the link. |

| I am feeding Teasell Nutro Natural Choice small bits Lamb and whole brown rice. I have tried other brands but she starts itching on the others. She is now 4 years young and pretty spunky little girl all 7 pounds of her. She actually needs to lose a little, she's a little piggy. She is so spoiled rotten but the best thing in the world to me.....Lynne |
