I work at a vet's office. We do usually take the dogs out of the room for blood draws , xrays, nail trims, etc. The vets I work with feel most of the time the dogs are better away from the owners. Some owners don't want to see those things. But personally when I was just a client I did not like mine to leave the room. One time my big dog came back bleeding from several nails and I couldn't touch his paws for a couple years. I preferred to hold my pet and I never let them spend the night if they had procedures. That was discussed before hand. So I definately see where you are coming from.

To me, that right there sounds like he's not treating my lil one properly... Why else would he ask such a thing?

I wouldn't be comfortable with them doing anything out of my sight, unless it was surgery, or a procedure that'd freak me out.

I'm sure they make a lot of money giving shots that the client never asked for but that kind of thing could cause severe reactions and even death in a small dog and especially in a puppy. We brought Gracie back for tech visits in order to complete her vaccinations because they did not want to give them all at once due to her size. (we were not charged for the tech visits - just the injections) The people that wanted to bombard your dog with immunizations all at once could very well have killed her.

I would not go to a veterinary clinic that I could not trust to inject only what was requested. These people were not even going to inform you what they were about to do....incredible

I've never had a vet take one of my pups out of sight. I'm even in the room to help with x-rays as well as if they do injections or stool samples. Like others have said, maybe it's just normal in your area? But I would definitely feel really uncomfortable with them taking them out of the room just to give a shot, I'd never let that happen. Maybe explain this to them and see if they get the picture, or find a new vet. That's really odd to me!

I assisted the vet today when she docked the tails and did the dew claws. She and the staff knew my girl and my puppies were not touching the ground, the tables or anything else that wasn't 100% sterile and that they were not leaving my sight.

At our last two appointments my vet has taken Buster to the back...I am not pleased. They have always done everything with the exception of x-rays in the exam room. I'm not sure why, but since I'm changing vets anyway, I don't care.

Shelby's vet and groomer both let me stay with Shelby for everything. I let them know before we started using them that I would not let her out of my sight. The only exception was when she was spayed.
