There is no reason why a dog should have to suffer any pain when being groomed. A dog who has it's nails cut too short even once never forgets it and the same it true with grooming the body. A puppy should be combed daily from the first day it comes home with you.

I'm not saying people should not go to a groomer if they want but I am warning people that there a lot of people out there calling themselves groomers that have little or no training and have no idea of how to properly groom a dog much less gently introduce a young pup to grooming.

Puppies should be handled and groomed daily at home by the owner from day one so that when they do hand their little one over to a groomer it will not be freaked out by the experience. If you keep your dog mat free it will make it much easier on both the groomer and the pup when it is time for a haircut.

Gracie was a typical energetic puppy but with consistent training, positive reinforcement and lots of patience and love she is a very cooperative client when it is hair cut time. I can't say she enjoys having her ears trimmed but she puts up with it. I can understand a dog being afraid of electric clippers but scissors? No. There is no good reason for that.

I totally agree :-) I have bathed Gizmo once a week since I rescued him, as ell as trimming the hair on the back of his ears and brushing him daily with a de tangling spray :-) he absolutely loves his brushing lol. I think that is why he is doing so well with the groomer that comes to my home, because he was already used to most of it. I don't like the thought of clipping his little black nails, as I'm afraid I would not know where the quik is and would hit it, and I definitely don't know how to do the anal glands :-) my groomer is a family owned business that has been grooming for 30 years on show dogs, and Gizmo absolutely loves him :-) he comes back in the house from the grooming van giving the groomer and everyone else tons of kisses as he goes prancing around. It's like he knows Mike just made him even cuter and he struts around like nobody's business haha.

Mimi hates the scissors around her face. She'll let me do everything else, tip her ears, trim her nails, she even tolerates clippers near her face & she loves to be brushed...just not scissors! She doesn't like the way the scissor sounds when it cuts, she jerks her head back. That doesn't mean I abuse her in any way. When I 1st got her when she was 7 months old, the previous owner had taken her to get groomed & they burned her bottom lip w/a hot clipper. It scabbed up & took awhile to heal. You'd think she would be afraid of clippers but she's not.

I totally agree w/you that we need to fully investigate the groomer b4 trusting them w/our pets. Someone that had proper training, we only get a certificate. We do not get tested like cosmetologists...so anybody can groom.

I can't figure out why my dog will not let me cut his hair after doing it for 4 years. Not too many people are doing this because of covid. What do I do? I manage to have one groomer try but he was out of control with her. I agree with what you wrote but now what do I do?

If this is new then something is going on and he might need a vet check.

This is something new. I have been cutting his hair and nails since I adopted him. He did have his checkup. I did finally find a mobile hair groomer. I have an appointment this coming Friday. Hopefully he will be ok with her. If not, I have to back to the vet and develop some kind of plan.
