Great idea about the drying rack! Thanks! My washing regimen is to wash whatever was used during any given day, in the washing machine overnight using All or Tide and just a bit (I just pour it in) of Nature's Miracle since it's in a small load. I don' let the pads accumulate until there's a big load because I don't want the urine to set in, and I don't have a lot of them. |

I use the throw away ones... Although when the dogs have peed on a blanket or had an accident on clothing I used this stuff called Genesis 950. Although after thinking about it, wouldn't you want it to smell a little like pee? So that they remember to go on it? I've been doing TONS of research on the best way to get the smell of pee out of carpet/curtains/clothing, etc. (I have a little boy who marks on everything) I had to find something that gets the scent completely out and Genesis has been doing wonders. I heard that Advance Formula in the red bottle from Natures Miracle has worked well for some. |
The reason behind so many places telling you not to use bleach or oxi-clean is simple. Repeated use of either will break down the fibers of the vinyl laminate used to make the PUL waterproof backing. This essentially shortens the life of your pad and makes the pads wrinkle and crack. It's fine to use bleach every now and then though when a little extra cleanliness is wanted. Just be sure to rinse well and you shouldn't have a problem. ;) I've recommended several people to a group that repurposes hospital pads. They employ people with disabilities. You can only order 20 pads a month and the shipping is rather high. For me, with shipping, an order of 20 works out to about 80$. They also will provide pads to rescue groups free of charge though which I think is wonderful. (I think they do require them to pay shipping.) ODC merchandising is the name. I also like ezwhelps laminated pads (the tan ones with the paw prints). They're new, made well, and look nice. If you're thinking of making your own with PUL and a soaker fabric, it will cost you about 13$ for a 3' square pad. |

I use reclaimed hospital pads. I got over 900 pads absolutely free of charge from a local company that supplies hospitals. Most of the pads looked perfect and had no stains or holes. I love these pads especially at the price :D. I wash my pads 4 at a time using bleach and my fantastic homemade laundry soap. |
