Thanks for all these suggestions! I think I've been washing too many pads at once, should maybe use vinegar in the rinse cycle, and wash twice if they've been sitting for any amount of time. For those who PMd me, I use either the white hospital pads or the laminated pads from EZ Whelp. I LOVE the laminated pads, they are brown on top - which looks kind of nicer; they are SUPER thin but absorb a crazy amount of liquid; I also love that they lay so flat and keep their shape, whereas the hospital pads sometimes look wavy/wrinkly. These are the laminated pads: Buy Waterproof Pads for Whelping What the heck is Dettol? Never heard of it. |
I hand wash mine, I soak them in the bath in soap and a little bleach depending on the state of them, then I drain and repeat and hand scrub them rinse and ring them out, I use Dr Bronner's peppermint or eucalyptus soap |
Dettol is a UK antiseptic, it's awesome. I use portable baby change pads from walmart george |

I was skipping down to the shops to get mum some veg eating my Edinburgh rock, when I wiped out ripped my knees ending up with a big bleeding rubble filled mess and a lovely streak of Edinburgh rock on the pavement. Went to the shops and then went home and my mum cleaned the mess with Dettol. thanks for the memories. It's also fantastic for newly pierced ears |

I assume my washer is clean after a wash. I am not about to start washing anything by hand...and especially not pee pads. Hand washing is not my cup of tea. I am too worn out daily as it is without adding yet another task. |

Goodness knows no one needs yet another task, not these days!:) |
I got thinking that how each of us washes our pads is probably determined by the types of washing machines we have. I used to have a top-loading machine at my old house (which stayed with the house when I sold it). It was great at cleaning in just one wash, probably because it used plenty of water per cycle, both to wash and rinse. I now have stacked front-loaders and very small ones at that. It took me months to get the hang of it, especially with how little detergent to use. While it cleans most things really well, because it uses very little water, more heavily soiled items require a pre-rinse or an extra wash. |
I pretreat mine, cant think of the name of the bar I use to get stains out. It is AWESOME! It even takes out blood. Then just throw in the washing machine and air dry. I use ALL or Tide for washing. I no longer use the pee pads, she is fully house broken. |
