Follow Up I was here just about a year ago seeking advice on how to find a yorkie. Actually we were looking to rescue a yorkie or yorkie poo. After a LOT of frustration, we finally found our pup! I'm not sure how to post a picture on here, so I put her picture in my profile. The kids went back and forth on what to name her. She is officially "Princess Daisy Sparkle - the worlds best yorkie poo" We call her Daisy for short. She is sweet, smart and affectionate. Basically the best little girl in the world. I was surprised to discover that we had a LOT of trouble with rescue agencies. My youngest child is 6 and a lot of places would not consider us because of his age. In the end we just got lucky. A family member had a 9 month old yorkie poo that they could not keep. Someone gave their child this dog as a gift without asking the parents. ( what goes through people's minds!?) The relatives wanted to breed her to get puppies and some quick cash, then give her away. CRAZY! After 1 visit I knew that she would be perfect for us. She came with about 1/2 of her shots done and a bit of equipment. (winter coat, carrier, toys, leash, etc) We got her chipped and spayed right away! (she never had puppies) She lives in a house with a large yard instead of being stuck in a NYC apartment all day! She chases squirrels and birds and is a well loved member of the family. The best part, to me at least, is that she and my 6 year old are best friends!

It's wonderful that you saved that little girl from becoming someone's money maker. Have heard a lot of people say the same thing as you about rescues but I guess they are just trying to save the dogs from meeting the same fate as your little girl ran into. It is just incredible just what kind of mad frenzy small dogs are in the middle of right now. Between the bad breeders and the bad owners there is just a lot of suffering going on. If a rescue can help prevent even one more case of this nonsense then they have done a good thing. ....And as it turns out this little girl really needed you and you were there for her! Congratulations to both of you!

Congrats!!! She is adorable. You will have to post a picture of Daisy with your 6 year old. So glad you were able to help her, we got Cici our cockapoo husky mix girl in a similar way after trying to go through some bad rescues. It's crazy how after meeting a pup one time you can just know that it was meant to be.

Thanks everyone! I too have been amazed at the small dog craze. I live just outside New York City and I think a lot of people want smaller dogs because they do better in apartments. Then, like us, they end up moving to the burbs. We live on a yorkie heavy block. There are 3 or 4 on our block alone!
