Ideas to prevent cats from using doggie door?

Jenny how true is this? I know you are the super food lady... especially about the dangerous foods.

Thank you! I sent an email to my vet. He warned me about the tree oil so I put a cover on the bowl and punched holes so only the scent of the lemons and tree oil can get out. It is tupperware so it should stay closed however I also ran tape around it to keep it secure. My dogs definitely do not like the smell of the tree oil. I hope the cat does not like the smell either.

Our yard is fenced and very large so I don't believe there is anything we can do to the fence to keep the cat out. Besides there are about 6-8 cats in the neighborhood that roam freely during the day. I don't believe I can keep them all out of the yard. My "dog owner neighbors" have set up motion activated water sprinklers in their yards for fear of a cat entry.

I am going to continue looking for a different doggie door, magnetically or electronically activated. I know Edward would not have any problems. I just need to find something that Scarlett can use. Jeepers, I have learned a lot today. All of you have been so helpful.

My husband has also been helpful. He placed a sticky note over the doggie door that says "DOGS ONLY!" It is never dull here!

This is why you must NEVER leave it out in liquid form, like in a bowl mixed with water or even spray them (cats) with it.Just the scent of it will do.They don´t like it for obvious reasons and it keeps them well away.
It keeps wild cats away from my garden and my balcony

I actually use 10 drops of tea tree in oil in all my dogs shampoo (10 drops to a bottle) to kill any fleas and to prevent them too..it works wonders.

You DO have to be careful and make sure they can´t get to any *neat* tee tree oil, but it wont hurt or kill anything the way I described

My sister has an electronic doggy door. Both of her dogs wear the collars and the door will only open for them. This keeps the wild animals out and allows her two dogs to go in and out as they please.

When we first purchased the doggie door we bought an electronic door but the activation device was too heavy for Scarlett so I gave it to a friend. At the time Scarlett was about 2.5 pounds, now she fluctuates between 2.7 and 2.9 pounds. I just spoke to one of the manufacturers I found online. They now make a smaller activation device and the rep said the 'cat' models are smaller than the small dog model. That did not make sense to me because the cat entering my home has to weigh over 10 pounds and my largest dog is 5 pounds. It seemed the small dog door device would be smaller. Oh, well. The company will send it to me on approval so keep your fingers crossed.

The cat was in my yard this afternoon but never came close to the patio or the door. The lemon peels and tree oil may also be working! I hope I never get to see a cat climb my drapes and fly through the living room again.

Try putting the peels and oil on rags around the fence.
