Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with giving Yorkies "real" food. As long as it isn't fried or seasoned, it certainly isn't dangerous. After all, dogs ate "real" food before dog food was invented. I wouldn't feed my dog something literally off of my plate - unless it was raw. But they do get fresh food everyday...things like boiled chicken, peas, green beans, carrots, cheese, eggs, Cheerios, etc. When I give them something they haven't eaten before, I give them a tiny bit just to make sure they don't have a negative reaction to it. And I don't give them enough so that they won't eat their own dog food. But I think that a little treat every once in a while is fine.

yeah we do give them some of that but the vet said not to give them eggs. we did that one time before we find out it wasn't good for them. when my parents was younger they feed there dogs just about anything. mom said she did to hers more and even when I was younger on my other type of dog we had she eat just about anything and nothing seem to happen. but mow days u can't do this or that with out someone saying that going to hurt them or kill them. but I don't give them food that said meat by-product since lot of the dogs food that has it in there get recalled more often. they just did 2 different kinds this past week.

I answered your other thread you made on same topic -- but who in the world said eggs are not good for dogs? Eggs, in moderation, are great for dogs skin and coat. I feed a few eggs per month to Jackson.

I'd have to agree about the eggs. I give my dogs whole eggs - eggshell & all. There's lots of good calcium in an eggshell.

Beef steak can be very fatty and difficult to digest. A human who has had lap band surgery cannot eat steak because it very difficult to digest. Many people do use lean ground beef in their dogs' diets.

As Teresa indicated, it is very important that foods you are feeding are not seasoned like so many people foods are.

If you are feeding all fresh foods, the diet needs to be balanced or you risk making your dog very sick. Protein needs to be balanced with calcium for instance. This is very difficult to do for a dog without a recipe from a vet nutritionist and usually a supplement like Balance It.

My other concern with table food is the risk of pancreatitis, if the wrong foods are fed.

the vet that we go to has a website where u can send in question and a few days later they send something back. that how we find out that eggs are not good for them. I seen a lot of show where people give the dogs on there eggs. so we thought it was alright but my mom wanted to make sure so we send the question into the vet. but we did give her eggs one time since we was having it that night and we couldn't wait for the vet to answer back. but it didn't seem to bother her and she like it. but since they said it wasn't good for them we just never give them to her again. like this lady that answer the phone said that beef was to fat and it did something else to them and that I was killing her or something. I want to say something to liver or something it's been a while so I can't remember. at time I think that they want use to buy the food that they have at the vet off. like the science diet think that what they give her when we first went there a free thing. I do know that what they give my aunt. but when I looked at what on there they had meat by-product in and too she didn't really like it after she got fix it. lot of the time they say that blue buffalo not good for them. I am not to sure on what they say is wrong with it. but part of me want to think it has something to do with the prontien however u spell it. she does like it better then anything else she has eating before. I just wish it was cheaper then what it is. if it was then we would have 2 bags of it around the house for her.

I didn't think dogs should have eggshells. since my vet said that they couldn't have eggs. but then again I just might send that back in as a question to see what they say this time around. since they have change lot of the workers in there. but lot of the time they don't want me to give her any human food. and try to get me to get the food that they have there.

we don't really do the beef steaks that much and if we do it's very little but then again we don't do much steaks of any kind in this house really. we do beef roste however u spell it and ground beef we do make something out of it for her. but we don't add anything to it. the vet did say that the blue buffalo don't watch the balanced right or maybe the protein something like that. but I do want to say the balanced part. but we think they are just saying that to get us to buy the food that they have there. they told my aunt that imas is better then blue buffalo. but imas does have meat by-products. and too I did hear that imas and other one I can't even tell u how to say it or even spell it. I do know it start with euk something like that. it was on the recall. I got an email about it and my mom saw it on facebook to the other day. at time I just don't think they like blue buffalo for some reason. but my little one does like it.

I think it really depends.

Princeton spent the first 7 years of his life only eating dog food...until I adopted him, and then I started feeding him off my plate. He ate whatever I thought was "ok" to feed to a dog...no heavily seasoned food, chocolate etc etc...but he did have a lot of fattening and greasy foods...pizza, mac and cheese, steak, fish etc.

2 years later, he now has gall bladder issues and has scarring in his pancreas from pancreatitis. I didn't realize until Princeton got sick, that my childhood dog actually died of the disease. She was overweight and ate lots of people food and it eventually lead to her passing away. The vet told my mother we killed her with kindness...and this is probably one of the reasons why vets discouraging table scraps.

Now, I am really careful with what I feed my dogs...they may get an unbuttered, unsalted green bean off my plate...or they may get some unseasoned chicken boiled especially for them, but that's about it.

I don't think people feeding their dog home cooked meals is bad, as long as they educate themselves on their dogs nutritional needs...but "people" food can definitely be harmful for pets. I wish I wouldn't have had to learn the hard way. I used to feel guilty about eating and not sharing my meal...but now I feel guilty because I basically poisoned my dog.

we feed Pluto bits of meat and veggies and he gets foam from our lattes. I struggle with this because my grandparents had three dogs that I can remember growing up - EACH of them living to over 19 years of age - a chi, doxi and a poodle, and their diet pretty much consisted of cheap dog food, left over bacon and fried eggs from breakfast, hotdogs and leftover steaks and gravy. We don't give this to Pluto but I swear all three of my grandparents dogs lived over 19 and were happy as clams albeit a little fat. My grandma would even bring home beefsticks from the bowling alley (yeah I'm from a small Montana town) for the poodle once a week. So like I say, I just don't know what the formula is. Those dogs ate a LOT of eggs though.

Feeding Your Dog Raw Eggs – Good Or Bad? | Dogs Naturally Magazine

I have always given my real people food as a treat/extra. There primarily calorie intake is from their FROMM 4star kibbles.

Eggshells are rich in calcium, but I don't feed my dogs eggshells everyday. Maybe your vet is telling you not to give them human food because your vet wants to make sure they eat a balanced diet. All of the nutrients a dog needs to thrive & be healthy are in dog food. If they eat too much human food, they might not be hungry enough to eat their own food & it would throw off the balance of their diet. And it doesn't take much human food to fill up the tummy of a little Yorkie. I think that if your dog is eating dog food for meals, then a few bites of fresh food should be okay. But your vet is right when he tells you that your dog shouldn't eat table scraps. A lot of the seasonings we add to our food can be unhealthy - and even dangerous - for a dog.

dang it I hate it when things mess up on me. I am not to sure if it's the site or my computer this days. we never know what we can feed dogs this days. some people say not to feed them human food and other say it's alright. and some people say u are killing them that what the lady at the vet office that answer the phone. I don't like her since she not the dr so I don't take anything she said to heart. now if it was the dr there or the tech then I will. since the lady that answer the phone she wouldn't even ask the dr or tech someone else all she would do is say call animal control office when we called over there to ask what would a lizzaryed would do her. she didn't that we don't have one of them here. since we live in a small town she thought we lived in the same town as the vet office is at.
