I'm so torn.... So I'm due to pick up my pup this Wednesday and went by my breeders home to visit the female pup second pic below I put my deposit on. The problem is....I saw her brother the first picture below and I fell head over heels. He's feisty, spunky, and just ran to me and gave me kisses whereas his sister just sat back and looked at me after greeting me...I guess you could say she's "aloof" with me now....I don't know what to do y'all!!!! My breeder just looked at me and said why don't you take both? And you guys I swear I would, but my husband would probably move out hehehe. So what should I do? My breeder told me she'll hold on to the male til Weds because if I want him she'd rather I have him than someone else because other perspective buyers just rubbed her the wrong way and he's really small. I always said I wanted a female but know I'm all confused :(. I would like anyone's advice as what to do. Having a pet is a lifetime commitment and I don't want to make the wrong decision....I bet my breeder is having a good laugh at me right now *shaking fist in the air*:idontknow |
Craptastic my pics didnt attach.... |
Why do you need both? Go with your heart and grab up that little male! I think your heart is telling you something. You obviously have a better connection, I would put sex on the back burner. |
I would take the male since you obviously have a connection with him |
I'd say go with the male |
Why did you want a girl? I would take the male. |
I too wanted a female but fate had different plans haha. I saw this add with this little male that this girl was selling, because she said her bigger dog was beating up on it. I just knew I had to go save him, and thankfully I did because the truth was once I went straight to the vet with him, that he was going into a hypoglycemic coma and was ready to die. I am so in love with him now, I think my husband might be a little jealous hehehe. He has the sweetest personality ever and is a total goof ball, and I know I completely did the right thing by going with my heart. He is going to be my lifelong friend :-) I say follow your heart, you won't regret it xoxo |
Well I will give you my experience in this. I like yourself wanted a girl. However I fell in love with a boy. 6 years later we have such an amazing bond. We get closer and closer each day. He is everything I wanted and more. I say you pick what your heart tells you. I will say something made him go up to you and give you kisses.. so I’m pretty sure HE picked you. If it were me, I would be taking that sweet boy. Can you go back and have another visit? All you can do is pick the one you have that special connection with. If it is meant to be, you will have a special connection, and you will know without a doubt which one is yours. |
I was looking for a female Yorkie when I came across Max's picture and knew he was the one. We brought home his brother a year later. :) Wishing you the best in making your decision. |
If you can afford it just get both of them. Lots of people on here get one and then just a little later they add the second one it would just be like raising twins twice the fun and of course twice the work. |
@MistyM I've had nothing but female pups growing up so I think I just got used to the idea of whenever I went searching for a yorkie pup it would be a female also....I agree this little man came up to me for a reason and that the breeder held onto him for that very same reason. I go back this Weds morning to make my final decision...the breeder told me she won't sell him til I absolutely say "No". She wants me to think it over and have no regrets/second thoughts. How great and patient of her is that?! |
@cummins I was definitely thinking of getting them both but it wouldn't be fair to my husband buy I always hear "A happy wife is a happy life":tongue004 |
Well, I have a different story to tell....when I picked my little Yoda... He seemed shy ....on the other hand his little sister had a darling outgoing personality, and we made a connection instantly... But alas she was spoken for... So I took little Yoda home and he blossomed... No right away....h we have an awesome connection...sometimes I think of his sister but....I have no regrets... I agree with everyone here go with your heart.. |
Go get your little boy! When I was looking for my baby, I swore I just wanted a boy... I saw Billi's picture tho and she changed the game for us! When it's love, it's love and it sounds like you found it with the little guy! :) |
Sex aside, it seems you should go with the one you connected with and vice-versa!! We got our first yorkie almost 2 years ago - a boy. He's feisty (uh, sometimes obnoxiously so), super sweet, smart, loyal and loving. ADORE him. Love him so much when we went looking for yorkie #2, we had our hearts set on another boy. We found another loving, even more sweet little rescue guy. My family is SO happy we have boys, our experience with them has been great. :) |
My first yorkie was a little boy and I really wanted a little girl to put it cute dresses and pamper, so I started looking again!! I passed up many opportunities, merely because they were males and not females...until I found Ricky. It was love at first sight and the sex didn't even matter anymore. I still want a little girl some day, but I don't regret getting Ricky for even one second!! If this makes sense, I think who the dog is, tends to me more important than what sex the dog is. If you have a better connection with the male, and the breeder seems cool enough to work with you, I say get the male. It may be time for a change anyways if you've always had females. ...OR maybe you will luck out and your husband will say to just get both. I can think of all kinds of reasons why having 2 dogs is better than 1!! I don't know if this is true or not, but the lady I got my first dog from says that her males were more affectionate than her females. The females were less lovey and were more independent. It may just be her dogs...IDK, as I haven't been around enough yorkies to make that analysis. |
I'm a bad influence. I say take both. You can always get a new husband :D |
I say go with what makes you happy! sex isnt an issue and if you get a boy now you could always get a girl later ;) |
All I know is if you get the boy you'd better not name him "Pinktini"! Now that I have 2, I'll never have just one again. However, getting 2 at once? Not sure about that...... |

I would say take the male. It seems that you both are more connected. Put sex aside and go with your gut. Both females and males can be wonderful companions! Just go with the one you feel more drawn to. It looks like he chose you :) Why not choose him as well ;) And if you feel a good connection with the female too, go with her (your husband will have to adjust and he will fall in love with them!) But, don't go with her because you'll feel bad. If you go with both, do it because you feel great with both ;) |
Thank you for the advice :D he's definitely the one I'm leaning to and will be making the decision weds. When we first visited the breeders home my husband was fawning over the male but since I was so "set"'on a female he just let it go and didn't say anything to me about it. @RhettsMama you're gonna get me banned from YT by my husband hehehe I always tell him it's time for an "upgrade" |
@ dollydoodle if I named him Pinktini my husband would call "the people" on me and have me committed lol |
My very first was to be a little girl as well, but her brother stole my heart and I got him. I did almost get both, I still think about her to this day :) Good luck to you:) |

I say get the pup that touches your heart. |
I'm liking the comments: "Put sex aside" "Sex isn't important" "Forget about sex" Shall we start a new thread in the "Off Topic" section? LOL |
I think the fact your dh had a connection with the male pup, too, makes it a done deal. The only thing I regret about my male is not being able to dress him up in frilly little dresses, but, honestly, I don't have the time to dress a dog daily and am happier with my nekkid little boy!:D |
Honestly its not always about what you want sometimes God has other plans |

Take both! But if you just dont feel right doing that, those little boys will wrap you around their little paw!! Little girls can get prissy and cop an attitude, just like a sassy little girl....but those little boys.....all they want to do is love you and be loved by you! |
