Do you get Snubbed by other yorkie owners often? And is there a certain type that usually snubs you, if you have noticed? We always seem to get snubbed by owners of cotton coated, stubby legged, short muzzle yorkies. They must think Uni is not a yorkie. I usually will at least smile to anyone with any type of dog. But many times me and Uni have been just downright snubbed when it's a yorkie that doesn't look like Uni. There was one house in the neighborhood, but they've since moved. They had a yorkie that looked JUST like Katie, and we would always look for him if he was outside but the owner NEVER looked at us or smiled. :( That was the only yorkie in the neighborhood. There was another one, but she was a senior and I haven't seen her in a few years. No doubt she must have passed by now. |
I own a mix and I've never met anyone who looked down on her. They always make comments like, "My dog looks just like her," "Is she a yorkie/mix?" "She's so cute!" Not sure how I'd react to someone saying something negative. Probably just smile and walk away. |
My yorkie is a cottony coated, stubby legged (not sure about short muzzled) girl and she is 18 lbs. with floppy ears. Everyone asks me what kind of dog she is. Very few people I have ever met in the 10 years I have had her have recognized her as a yorkie. I don't recall anyone ever snubbing her because she doesn't look like a normal yorkie but if they did I would just smile and walk away because I love everything about her just the way she is and wouldn't change a thing about her even if I could. I wouldn't trade her for anything in the world. I'm sorry that people act this way. There is something wrong with them. |
Some people probably think I am snubbing them because when I have the boys out, I'm usually preoccupied and in my own little world, or the other Yorkie person takes me by surprise -- racing their cars up to us to show their doggies, lol. I'm not always up to being social. On one of our trips to the grocery store, dad stayed in the car with the boys while I shopped. I had barely gotten back in the car when a man holding a Yorkie knocked on my window. I was exhausted after working, the park and shopping, and wasn't feeling very social, despite how cute his doggy was. I was nice, but I got the feeling he was disappointed that we didn't want to stay and talk about everything Yorkie. Maybe when you encounter these people, it isn't always about the dogs. |
I think a lot of yorkie owners just aren't as into their dog as I am into mine :p I've met a lot of people that don't have a clue about the specific needs of a yorkie (walking their pup on its collar, call it a teacup etc) and are not interested in talking about their dog. It is interesting the different type of people out there. I also think that not everyone is social... You never know. I don't know that I've been 'snubbed', too much but I do occasionally get the "Oh, I have a yorkie too, but he's half the size of yours!" lol. Like it's a competition for who has the smallest dog... |
Winston is the one doing the snubbing here. He just ignores people and other dogs, he'll walk around them and keep going. I don't know why, he just seems stuck-up to me. If I stop to chat with someone, he'll just look away totally oblivious to anyone around him. I've never had anyone intentionally snub us, maybe it's being from a small town, I don't know, they all seem very open to us...if Winston would just be nice.... |
Maybe it's a CA thing, lol. We get ignored/snubbed by other yorkie owners all the time. It's so weird. It seems more like ignored, actually. I'm always excited to see other yorkies, but the feeling doesn't seem to be mutual much of the time,or the doggy parents don't notice us. I don't take it personally...usually, though I did at first. I do realize I'm totally yorkie-obsessed and not everyone feels the same way (silly them). I hadn't noticed a particular type that snubs us, but there are a lot of tiny yorkies around and I usually have P-nut the 10.5 lb. teapot with me when snubbed. So, we may be facing size discrimination in our area. |

I have noticed that Mina will snub other dogs, unless they are yorkie or poodles. I guess because that is what her siblings are. As for humans she doesnt warm up really quick to most people,,,unless they own a yorkie and their baby is there too. |

P-Nut's suuuuper friendly, so I do feel badly for him when we get ignored. |
My experiences do not include getting snubbed by any other Yorkie owners.....having a Yorkie is like having a Harley! Other Yorkie owners acknowledge and wave and smile....I do not expect them to come visit or socialize with us, but I have never experienced being snubbed......I have Yorkie decals on my car window and personalized plates "YORKIE", and I have people honk and wave and just be friendly when they pass by on the freeway! You know immediately, "Ah, another Yorkie owner!!!" |
NYC loves their Yorkies :) We don't get snubbed. It's the exact opposite. When I'm with one (or more) of mine, people will come up to me & start telling me all about their Yorkie - even if they don't have their pup with them. I've had 30 minute conversations with people in parking lots. It's actually a little uncomfortable sometimes. We know all of the Yorkie owners along our walk route & it's sort of required to stop and have a quick converstion if they happen to be outside. :p |

When Charlie (15 pounds) was alive he would run with us at the park. Occasionally we would see other yorkie owners with their dainty tiny dogs. I couldn't help myself but say, "What a cute yorkie! Charlie is a yorkie too." Most of the time we got the yorkie snub. Charlie just wasn't turtly enough for the turtle club. |
I get snubbed all the time by other Yorkie owners!!! It's okay, I have a pretty thick skin. Sophie Kate is far from the perfect example of the Yorkie breed but to me she is perfect in every way (well except for that time she chewed up my floor boards in the family room). |
We get snubbed sometimes but I like to de-snub. Sometimes I see people with what appears to be a "standard Yorkie" approach us and make a disapproving face. I'll usually say very loudly "Max look! That doggy looks just like you!" Then they'll generally say "no, mine is a Yorkie". Oh yes, so is mine :D Then there are people who think their mixed breed dog looks just like Max. Yesterday it was a Yorkie/Schnauzer mix who looked nothing like Max except for floppy ears. Max is a 16 pound very tall and long floppy eared Yorkie. Cooper is just cute but nobody know what breed he is so he doesn't get snubbed. He's a morkie. |
I remember very well the time I was snubbed. I was at a dog show and I had one of mine with me. I was snubbed by the Show people. I have also been snubbed by people when they saw my Allie, because she has a tail, they called her mutt. |

Nope We live in the country on the "Hundred Acre Wood" with just the birds, trees, butterflies and cows. We don't have a park to run and play with other dogs so in all fairness I really shouldn't say yes or no. When I have Coco with me when we are out running errands or going to the pet store people comment on how cute she is and only once has anyone asked me what breed she is. Even though se is 11lbs and not a smaller yorkie, most people recognize what breed she is. I did see a teeny tiny yorkie in petsmart and the owner looked at me and I looked at her and smiled but she kept on walking. She was very young herself and her yorkie was a baby so that may have been the reason for her not returning my smile (inexperience) But, some people are just snobs and it doesn't matter that they own a yorkie. They were taught that way by their family or they desired to develop that type of attituted. Either way, I figure that's their problem and I feel sorry for them that they live that way and don't seem to really enjoy life and this beautiful world we live in |
Well I've never been snubbed when out walking Razzman. Not exactly. When he was in wraps and had his wrapping jacket on, sometimes I would get oh, how cute that outfit is. And what are those things/ sometimes they say curlers in his hair;) But when we walk the big boy and the little one, mostly who rushes up, and cars stop is to admire the big dog. I did have at the swimming park an incident, I was playing fetch with Razzle in the water, Magic was in his crate. I got the "rat" remark, and well at least that ankle biter does something. I smiled and said, he is a fine swimmer isn't he. Then I put Razzle away, and out comes Magic. I said perhaps this one is more your "cup of tea". THe man backed up quickly..... He said Whoah, that is one big dog. Yup he is. He sort of stumbled and said; he is gorgeous. Thanks I replied, he fetches too:D |
I went to a meet up in Irvine. We met at the man made lake.. Not sure what it was called. I went with my friend Shana- who has a Yorkie /Pom mix. We noticed a group of ladies gathered around, they had all Yorkies. All of them were girls, all of their yorkies were dressed up.. Like real fancy. That day was hot so Peanut- and Todd were nakie. Well we walked up to them and were kinda waiting for them to say something to us... Nope, nothing. They pretty much ignored us. We went over to sit down, they all started walking over and one girl came up to us and asked if we were in the meet up- I said Yes, she asked us if we wanted to go to lunch with them. I told her No, we were going to pass. I told her next time I will make sure we dress Pnut and Todd up as females since it looks like that is what they are into. I just had a really bad feeling about it. They all had their Yorkies dressed up in tutu's and the ladies had their LV bags and typical Irvine style. Give me a break- I could care less about that crap... Anyone can buy that crap! How I took it in they didnt come talk to us because Pnut and Todd were not all dressed up, they were not females, they didnt have a full coat, and obviously we didnt carry our LV bag to go to a park. |

Not, central ca. Everyone I run into loves my little guys. Ran into two seperate yorkie owners at vet, one with a tiny 3 lb other standard size. Both were friendly and chatted a bit. Always at park or walking my boys people stop to make comments about how cute they are. |
Wow - I know we have a special breed but I never met anyone who snubbed me, but then again I probably wouldn't notice. Most people think they are cute my wife tells me that they are a "chick magnet" when I go out in public with them. I have heard that sometimes owners can be elitist but I ignore all that and just love my little guys!! BTW your little one is beautiful!! Ignore anyone like that because it not worth fretting over it!! |

So seems about 50/50. I got a polite snub yesterday, and Uni wasn't even with me! This one restaurant that I go to often, the guy there knows me, and he's seen Uni before. I was wearing my yorkie t shirt (yeah I have one, what?) and he said, oh I thought that was your dog on your shirt! And I said oh no, but I have a friend and her dog looks JUST like this pic (Kaji ) and he goes on to say, But you know what kind of dog my sister really wants is a yorkie. So obviously Uni and Kaji aren't yorkies. As far as people, I've had mixed responses. Most people have been friendly. I will say though...there is a lady down the road who has yorkies, and while she hasn't been rude, she hasn't been overly friendly either. I had envisioned yorkie play dates while my older male was the only yorkie of the house... I knew he was missing other yorkies...and she would just wave and walk on by though. So we just had to go get my little guy playmate of his own and now we are the happy house of 2 yorkies:) |

I was thinking more in terms of the weird places we walk, places where I'm not expecting other pets. |
