| Most important commands What do you think are the most important commands a dog should know? I think come, stay, sit, drop it, leave it and just a general no.

| All of those plus "stop" mid-stride. I trained Tibbe that "stop" means take no further steps in any direction and stay in place until I come pick him up. He's not to walk toward me as I'm coming for him. This one is hard for him to keep crisp on so regular training in it is necessary for him. He also knows "Back back".

| I think your both right but as far as "most important" I think "come" is that for me and I have been very lax at training Princess Sophie to "come". I think she has me trained. LOL

| In Pixie's case it is drop it bc she eats everything she isn't supposed to.b Daisy would be wait bc if she gets loose she will run away and twice she has ran right into a busy road and I ran in front of a truck on a busy road to save her life...I now have taught her the command wait, I felt two close calls were enough!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That's the only one Joey won't do! I can get him to craw on his tummy like a commando, and jump through hoops, but I can't make him come!

| In general come or stop would probably be most important, for my yorkies leave it has been one of the best commands I could have ever taught them- I can't believe the things people throw on the ground these days.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | A note the walk away stay; or more likely you will be running away, is for emergency situations when you need your dog to stay in place, while you go run and deal with an emergency that is happening.

| Dexter is doing pretty good with all the main commands when we are at home, but once we go somewhere, its impossible to have him concentrated! He is almost 9 months old and is not really a puppy anymore, but he has attention span of a gold fish It really doesn't bother me that much, except for the fact that he should respond to at least command "come" in case he gets lose outside. What do we do? |
