Very well said and everyone needs to pat their own back once in a while...when I found myself not being able to do it on my own with helping out, thats when I turned to Main Line and the local SPCA...more powerful in numbers...and it works! Peace!

I would just like to inject here that many states have tried to enact laws with real teeth that would put the puppy mills out of business, however, the AKC continually lobbies against these laws. They have the power and influence to stop any significant change in legislation and have done so many times.

Although AKC is a respected registry for purebred dogs they also represent thousands of large scale breeders. Many, many puppy mills are AKC participants and AKC goes to bat for them.

My little 4.6 lb Biewer (I have papers for him 5 generations). The actual way it stated on the papers is Yorkie (Biewer markings) . He is mostly white with 2 black patches on his back with tan ears. He is the cutest little thing. Never heard of Biewer until I got Goliath, but did allot of research on-line there is much info out there.

I so wish we had more members here that are also members of the AKC. I'd love to hear their viewpoints on this & until I've seen for myself documentation of the AKC supporting puppymills, I will continue to refer people to them when looking for a purebred pup. However, I do also tell people that it's the buyers' responsibility to really research ANY breeder they may find. As with anything, there's always more to the story than what is reported by the ASPCA & HSUS. I've seen articles on both organizations websites stating inaccurate claims, ie mixed breeds are more healthy & have less genetic defects than purebred dogs.

There's NO WAY nine inspectors nationwide is enough to properly handle home visitations of all the breeders connected to the AKC.

I TOTALLY support those who choose instead to adopt a pup from reputable rescues.

Bill Smith, who is considered the King of puppy mill rescue, has his own way of doing the rescues. Another educational fact is that it would be wise for you to do some investigating about the laws here in PA if your going to make such statements as the public "doing more". We cannot just go onto private property and seize any dog(s). Bill tries his best to get a relationship going with these BYB and the Amish. Once that is established, he goes to them mostly on a daily basis. Before the puppy mill owner takes that 7-8 year old yorkie female that cannot produce anymore or who is sterile, or takes that 2-3 yr old male who is not up to par as a stud and shoots them in the head behind the barn, Bill takes them off his hands and off to the rescue they go. Yes, shooting a dog as a way of euthanazia is legal here. Only so much we as a community can do to try to stop these crazy laws put forth by state lawmakers. Another educational fact: PA has the harshest puppy mills laws of any state!

Just because some one doesn't know about another breed doesn't make them ignorant you didn't know about Biewer so did that make you ignorant? Lynzy does a lot for shutting down puppy mills in her area but until the demand for pet store puppies and such goes down there is always going to be puppy mills so educating the buyers is extremely important. You say your rescue is the biggest yet I'm pretty sure the ASPCA rescues more just by looking at there statistics but its not a game there is no better rescue ALL reputable rescues are equal ALL want to save dogs. Lynzy is so involved that your comments about her not being make me laugh so hard!

Apples to Oranges, throwing the baby out with the bath water etc...all come to mind here. These states are not LISTENING to the people. We need laws aimed directly at Puppymill's and brokers. Bills that are impossible to enact into law is what they keep coming up with, why is this? To appease the people and keep the puppymills happy?

Regulating responsible breeders to weed out the bad apples is far different than passing a dang law that would stop the unethical and cruel treatment of animals sitting on death row stockpiled in cages in puppymills. How you can continue to compare the two causes is beyond me.
